Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Engineer to lead and oversee environmental engineering design and execution for large-scale transmission line hardening construction projects. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with water quality regulations, air quality standards, waste management, spill water prevention, and permitting processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in mitigating environmental risks and contributing to our commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Location
This position will be based out of our office in Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities
- Lead the environmental permitting and design compliance for projects.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations, permits, and codes.
- Coordinate submittal, reviewing, and approvals of environmental requirements for future construction in federal and state lands.
- Identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks to the company.
- Assess environmental impacts associated with project activities and develop appropriate responses, including permitting and compliance activities.
- Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection.
- Maintain project data tracking requirements.
- Monitor, forecast, and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
- Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings to avoid and minimize adverse effects on the natural environment and local communities.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Communicate internally with all employees on the project, other disciplines and departments, and externally with the client, contractors, and government agencies.
- Support client response activities related to environmental advice, non-compliances, and environmental incidents, including field visits with clients and regulatory agencies.
- Liaise with the client, providing design information, schedule details, quantities, etc., ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting, and compliance issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in environmental engineering, with a focus on water quality regulations, air quality, waste compliance, spill water prevention, and permitting.
- Undergraduate degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of water quality regulations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, standards, and best practices, including NEPA/CEQA, WOTUS, NPDES, and SPCC.
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
- Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
