Our rapidly growing Industrial Design Group, which includes process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings Industrial Water and Utilities. We have specialized expertise in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.

Location

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS. Opportunities for flexible work are available. Ask about our relocation package if you reside outside the local area. 

Responsibilities

  • Managing industrial & water electrical projects, ranging from contract values of $10M+ and ensure projects fall within budget, timeline, and quality requirements.
  • Lead and manage a team consisting of discipline leads, estimators, designers, engineers and construction professionals
  • Execute and lead teams to produce, specifications, estimates and electrical design development
  • Prepare electrical engineering designs, including layout, design schematics, calculations, and conceptual designs, utilizing standard methods and project principles. 
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to design medium to large industrial projects.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners.  Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and developing recommendations for contract award. 
  • Ensure the quality of design and estimating is delivered in a consistent manner with the Kiewit Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide oversight and direction to the design team, while providing Supervision, mentoring of mid-level and junior staff .
  • Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed.
  • Work independently on small projects, or as a part of a large multi-discipline team on larger projects, including working with both in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction partners to provide our Clients the industry’s best of both engineering and physical design.
  • Provide technology solutions to streamline processes and use data to make informed business decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university 
  • Solid knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • 12+ years of engineering design related experience, preferably Industrial or water type of industry
  • At least 3+ year experience operating as an engineering manager, project manager or discipline lead 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and collaborative approach that permits effective communication amongst leadership, management, clients, project managers and staff. 
  • Organized, efficient, and able to multi-task effectively between the duties of a Project Manager & Estimator
  • Familiar with cloud-based construction applications

 

PREFERRED

  • PE License 
  • Experience with design/build and conceptual estimating from bridging documents 
  • Experience with electrical equipment (Transformers, Switchgear, Cables, MCCs, Panelboards) sizing and specification 
  • Experience developing calculations and studies such as: short circuit, load flow, motor starting, and grounding analysis using ETAP or SKM software analysis tools
