Location
This position is located in our Kiewit Power District Office in Lenexa, Kansas. We offer relocation assistance to individuals that want to live and work in the Lenexa/Kansas City area.
Responsibilities
- Utilize SmartPlant3D and other design tools to layout, design and draft drawings and perform 3D modeling for electrical equipment and systems for power plants, and other related facilities (carbon capture, energy storage, for example), from concept to completion utilizing engineering documents, sketches, specifications or vendor data. Experience with layout for systems like heat generation, steam generation, boiler systems, condenser systems, power plant control systems, etc... highly desired.
- Properly size cables and raceways.
- Perform layout of electrical equipment in electrical buildings. Design duct bank, embedded conduit, cable trays, grounding and lighting systems, lightening protection, raceway sizing, heat tracing & electrical schematics.
- Check and navigate in the 3D models using Navisworks, for interferences and constructability.
- Route electrical cables in a 3D environment to generate a cable schedule
- Perform calculations to check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements and size pull boxes.
- Perform calculations to size pull boxes according to NEC and state specifications and requirements.
- Require little to no supervision required to apply standard correctly to design.
- Seek feedback and use it effectively. Works efficiently as an individual contributor as well as part of a larger design team.
- Identify changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule.
- Take initiative to meet or exceed the quality and expected outcome requirements of internal and external customers.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
- Participate in project meetings as required.

Qualifications
- At least 3 years’ experience in Design and/or Drafting disciplines with a background in electrical systems design
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design preferred; minimum Highschool or GED Diploma with drafting or electrical design training
- Experience utilizing 2D or 3D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D or similar programs as well as knowledge and experience using latest computer operating systems and office software. Able to utilize software to check for interferences and constructability in designs.
- Must have experience conceptualizing designs/models in a 2D or 3D environment designing electrical equipment and systems. 3D modeling experience is preferred. Experience in the Power market (power generation) highly desired but will consider candidates with strong electrical design skills in Industrial markets, Oil and Gas and Chemical plants.
- Ability to work in a growing, adaptive and multi-discipline team environment
- Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English language
