Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Communications and Events Intern to support our Kiewit Power Constructors business and Kansas City-based philanthropy outreach initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to provide support for both the Kiewit Power Constructor’s Communications & Events Team and the Kiewit Lenexa Campus Philanthropy, Community & Employee Engagement Team. The intern will be based in the Lenexa office and serve as a valued member, providing ongoing support for a wide array of internal, external events, creative communication projects and programs that are helping Kiewit deliver strong business results.

District Overview

Kiewit Power Constructors (KPC) provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a union craft force.  Kiewit Power Constructors builds major EPC power plant projects throughout North America.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with event planning related to Kiewit’s charitable golf tournament and employee engagement campaign, Power of Hope. Duties include planning, logistics, communications, etc.
  • Additional Event Planning – Summer Leadership Expedition details and logistics, other meeting support as needed
  • Gathering materials for a Summer newsletter – researching, writing, editing, proofreading, formatting, and reviewing content
  • Social Media experience – supporting the KPC Trades Facebook page and Yammer Pages for the Power Districts & Kiewit Cares Kansas City by developing content (images, graphics, captions, photo release forms, etc.)
  • Video Production experience – helping with the mid-year project video updates and stewardship videos
  • Presentation Support – assisting with Service Award presentations and other professional presentations and materials as needed
  • Additional support using software such as SharePoint, Smartsheet and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Providing administrative support to keep events operating effectively

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, nonprofit management or related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality with attention to detail and consistency in work product
  • Excellent communication, writing, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills required; technical writing skills preferred
  • Dependable
  • Energetic and outgoing personality with the ability and desire to work in a team environment
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy; strong organizational skills
  • Willing to work 30-40 hours a week or more
  • Ability to work well with others; a positive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Ability to problem solve and find multiple solutions under tight time constraints
  • Ability to professionally handle constructive criticism
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency in SharePoint and Adobe InDesign preferred.
