Position Overview

District Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers brings various project types to life across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables and new technology, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence. 

Location

This position will be based out of our office in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing and interpreting client Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to develop detailed cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers and designers to review preliminary site plans for quantity takeoffs.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site surfacing, underground piping, and drainage.
  • Help develop subcontract and material bid packages with the procurement team.
  • Respond to bidder questions and assist in final bid evaluations.
  • Identify bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions, ensuring estimates and proposals are well-documented.
  • Participate in estimate reviews with senior estimators and management.
  • Compare self-perform estimates with subcontractor quotes.
  • Utilize software for computer-aided design and construction estimating.
  • Support the proposal team with civil-specific content for projects.
  • Understand and communicate civil construction methods used in pricing estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in construction estimating.
  • Knowledge of general civil-site designs, drainage systems, grading, utilities, and roads/paving.
  • Ability to coordinate with civil designers for accurate quantity takeoffs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
