Position Overview

Review and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide input on means and methods of construction, provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop estimates, evaluate quotes for materials and subcontracts, and perform cost analysis. You will be responsible for assisting in the development of discipline estimators, development and updates to historical databases, and development of department procedures.

This position will be based out of our Kiewit Power office in Lenexa, KS

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting Contract Documents (RFP, specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop conceptual design plans and detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of power generation and industrial projects across the United States.
  • Supervise estimators in the preparation of check estimates for other work, review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and aid in resolving differences in bid items.
  • Define civil construction methods for an estimate and be able to clearly communicate the means and methods used to gain buy in on selected approach.
  • Coordinate estimate efforts with project personnel in all disciplines and departments ranging in moderate to large or complex projects.
  • Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site surfacing, underground piping and drainage.
  • Identifying bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions along with quantities and pricing ensuring estimates and proposals are performed in accordance with company practices and standards.
  • Participate in estimate reviews and presentations to executive management.
  • Present the basis for cost estimates including research into historical means and methods, coordination with supervisions from past projects, and communicate how estimated costs support a realistic approach to construction of the work.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in civil or construction-related technology, OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above
  • Strong understanding of civil equipment and operations.
  • 10+ years relevant experience in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction Estimating, or Construction management function
  • 2+ years’ experience related to site development for large industrial or power projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with NCEES record preferable
  • Travel <10% expected
  • Can provide guidance to less experienced engineers and/or those without previous estimating experience
  • Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems.  Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines, and internal customers to clarify and make decisions on scope and direction of civil works.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner.  Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives
  • Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers and meets all required deadlines
  • Serves as project/discipline point of contact for external and internal customers
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines
