Position Overview

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking an Architect (Kiewit termed Building Planner) to be a part of our Building Group. The Architect (Building Planner) will work within the Industrial Buildings Group as part of an overall project team overseeing the building architectural design.

We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

District Overview

The Industrial Buildings Group is a diverse group of architects and engineers, as a part of Kiewit Engineering, Inc., and is responsible for all phases of the project life cycle for all buildings within Kiewit projects. The architect is responsible for managing fast paced projects including coordination and collaboration with in-house project engineers and contractors for successful execution of building estimates, conceptual design, construction documents and construction administration.

This position is based in our Lenexa, KS office.

Responsibilities

How does this affect you and your career growth!
•    Receive opportunities to program and develop conceptual building designs. 
•    Gain knowledge of the building codes, comprehend how to produce a code analysis and apply it to life safety plans while communicating findings with the team.
•    Understand construction estimating while working with the project team developing architectural packages to obtain construction building costs for proposals.
•    Ensure the project complies with Kiewit standards while maintaining budget and schedule by utilizing team tools and processes. 
•    Sit side-by-side and coordinate with in-house electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural engineers for complete building design.
•    Learn how to write and develop project specifications with specification software.
•    Opportunities to assist with technical construction bid analysis reviews and determining practicality of the bid proposals.
•    Learn and gain experience with the value engineering process and provide alternative recommendations to the project team as they relate to associated construction costs.
•    Develop methods in guiding architectural designers with architectural packages.
•    Gain familiarity and confidence in understanding the workflow required to estimate, bid and construct buildings in an Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC), and Design-Build environment.
•    Understand the construction administration process of submittals, RFI’s, construction questions and field support.

Qualifications

•    NCARB accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
•    0-3 years of experience.
•    Strong communication skills with the ability to critically think.
•    Self-starter with a self-driven work ethic.
•    Flexible and willing to be highly adaptable in the position to address the needs of the architectural team.
•    Experience with Revit, and an understanding of Microsoft Office applications, and Bluebeam.    #LI-IPLA
