Position Overview
Kiewit has an immediate opening for a Water-Resource Engineer in our growing offices in Laval (QC). The Drainage Engineer will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis and design in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of our company that offers a variety of services, including, temporary and permanent design services for current projects and new project pursuits in the United States and Canada. Our design services group has offices in Colorado, Nebraska, Washington State, Laval and Toronto, Canada offering expertise in structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, and materials disciplines. Our engineering group is responsible for managing engineering assignments in support of Kiewit’s construction projects in both the United States and Canada. As part of the engineering group, you will have the opportunity to work with other structural and geotechnical engineers, members of our interdisciplinary engineering team, as well as estimators, schedules and construction experts to provide advice on construction methodology, risk and the design of temporary works.

This role will be based in our Laval, QC Office
Responsibilities
- Conduct specific studies in hydraulics and urban hydrology according to the latest practices in stormwater management for urban and rural streets and highways and also for railroad drainage.
- Work on projects in an alternative mode allowing for innovation and development of constructible concepts while collaborating with construction teams and estimators.
Hydrology & Hydraulics
- Single-event and continuous rainfall modeling
- Watershed analysis, hydrograph and peak discharge development and routing
- Pavement drainage, culverts sizing, storm systems sizing, pump stations design (atout), revetment design, and drainage design
- Understanding of the various canadian and provincial guidelines, manual and standards..
- Stormwater quantity / quality calculations, according to local Environmental Ministry (such as MELCC) compliance and erosion control requirements
- Hydraulic software experience includes: HY-8, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, Arc-GIS, Q-GIS or equivalent
Drainage Design
- Development of drainage plans, profiles, specifications and estimates for transportation and other water resources projects. This includes developing terrain, transportation corridors and other design components according to the pre and post development analysis while integrating climatic changes and sustainable development requirements.
- Design of the temporary drainage staging during construction at the design phase which includes modification to the permanent design and/or temporary network, pumping, etc.
- Design software experience includes: AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer.
Water quality
- Development of erosion and sediment control devices, such as treatment units for sediments and oils, bio-swales and other infiltration devices to meet sedimentation requirements in accordance with local Environmental Ministry.
- Integrate and recommend the design criteria to achieve resilient structures in response to climate changes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Civil Engineering
- 3+ years post-graduate experience
- Design experience or Design-Build project experience preferred
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills both English and French with the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization and support project efforts
- Dynamic individual able to collaborate with different teams in North America
- Registered as a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), membership in another Canadian professional order is an asset
- This position requires travel to project offices and work sites. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Base Compensation: $90,000/yr - $110,000/yr
