Position Overview

As a Technical Writer supporting Kiewit’s Energy markets across Canada and the US, you will develop statements of qualifications and proposal documents needed to win publicly procured contracts. This position reports to the Energy lead within Kiewit’s Marketing and Proposals group and will coordinate with Kiewit’s North American Markets & Strategy team as well as local Kiewit District Operations leaders, engineers, and estimators.

•    Outline, write, edit and organize proposal documents, while also making timely edits and revisions to documents after reviews
•    Interview executives, engineers, construction managers, legal, designers, and others to generate original construction/engineering-based/technical content
•    Lead review discussions of proposal sections
•    Work with proposal team to develop and streamline technical approach
•    Incorporate subtle persuasive techniques into writing
•    Assist in the development of supporting materials (illustrations, tables, etc.)
•    Ensure submission compliance with the solicitation requirements.
•    Manage deadlines and responsibilities assigned through responsibility matrix
•    Provide input and writing for best practices, style guides and templates
•    Report on the status of assignments. 
•    Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested
•    Travel as needed: 5-10% per year


  • At least 5 years of experience in technical writing and editing, with at least 1 year of experience in Architecture/Engineering/Construction (or related) industry with an emphasis on publicly procured, qualifications-based collaborative delivery projects.    
  • Ability to write persuasively and purposefully in French, as well as ability to translate from English to French    
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications, Journalism, or French, although any related field to the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry will be considered.     
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop 
  • Excellent understanding of construction and engineering-focused/technical writing skills, specifically related to the Oil & Gas, Power, and Industrial markets.     
  • Skilled at collaborating with and interviewing executives, engineers, construction managers, legal, designers, and others to secure information for various writing assignments
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and active listening skills 
  • Strong emotional intelligence 
  • Self-motivated with ability to work well with professionals from various backgrounds 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to consistently meet high standards and be attentive to quality 
  • Driven by results and deadlines
