Position Overview

We are looking for a Human Resource Advisor with a passion for leave management. As part of an ambitious, consultative and highly collaborative leave team, you will provide critical day-to-day support for the leave event in the employee life cycle. You will be a subject matter expert and provide consultant level service to employees, managers and HR business partners.

District Overview

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit.  In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence.  Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization. 


This position is based out of Ontario,Toronto or Quebec,Laval. 


  • Coordinate and analyze extended absence files (CNESST, Long Term Disability, illness, maternity, etc.).
  • Inform employees and managers on the application of the leave law
  • Keep abreast of new HR trends and ensure the organization's compliance with the various labour laws
  • Build and manage strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders during the leave process
  • Utilize leave management software to complete leave related tasks in a timely manner
  • Communicate with vendors as needed to facilitate timely processing of disability claims
  • Participate in the continuous improvement process to refine and evolve the leave process and enhance the employee experience
  • Provide solutions to leave investigations
  • Be aware of industry and sector trends and best practices


  • Bachelor's degree in human resources/business management 
  • 2 to 4 years experience in Human Resources or related field 
  • Bilingual in English and French, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate at multiple levels
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of company leave policies and federal, state/provincial laws 
  • Regular and predictable attendance at the job site
  • Basic investigative and analytical skills sufficient to determine employee's need for leave and recommend a leave plan
  • Ability to adapt to technology as administrative programs evolve
  • Ability to solve complex problems using excellent judgment
  • Basic math skills 
  • Have a sense of service
  • Focus on objectives and results 
  • Work independently and agility to collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel, preferred
