Position Overview

As a Quality Control Lab Technician for Kiewit, you will support numerous projects across Texas and provide material testing on asphalt produced by a mobile plant to ensure that our materials meet client specification requirements. This person will be a part of Kiewit’s South Central district’s aggregate and paving group and will work on large roadway and other paving type jobs. District Overview

Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects where these materials could be used on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, underground utilities and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to engineering design.

Location

This position will travel with a mobile asphalt plant to support paving operations on projects across Texas, primarily in West Texas right now. Project durations could range from 6 months – 1 year and this person would receive per diem allowance (as defined by project budgets) and qualify for the company’s turnaround policy. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing of asphalt materials for conformance to requirements
  • Develop a thorough understanding of various test procedures for asphalt
  • Provide understanding of TXDOT and local municipality specifications
  • Report test results to management and recognize failing materials immediately
  • Ability to understand asphalt property relationships

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience working with 1A certification
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certifications issued from HMAC for Asphalt Level 1A and AGG101 are preferred. Training will be provided for the ideal candidate.
  • Ability to obtain certification(s) within 6 months
  • Self-starter with exceptional organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Working knowledge of construction industry
  • Ability to gain additional certifications to support project testing and inspection as needed
  • Capability to work construction hours during high seasons
  • Capability to travel to support operations in West Texas as needed
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Experience in a fast-paced asphalt production laboratory preferred, but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
