We are hiring an Equipment Superintendent to support Marine Construction and Dredging equipment for projects around the US.  As an Equipment Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will supervise mechanics in the repair, maintenance, scheduling and function of equipment and will be hands-on involved in those functions to ensure success of the team.  You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, quality workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish your goals.

District Overview

Our heavy civil experience, combined with privately owned equipment fleet, allows us to provide cost and schedule certainty to projects of any size. Our past experience includes concrete, steel, cast in place box, flat slab, railroad trestle and arch bridges, bridge widening, bascule and swing bridges, box culverts, storm drainage, erosion control, dike and levee construction, concrete paving, tunnels and sound barriers. Our Marine experience includes lock and dam repairs, docks, demolition, Navy wharfs, water intake structures, steel, concrete, composite and timber piling, fender systems, dolphins, piers, dredging, marinas and LNG facilities.

Location

This position will be located in Jersey City, NJ at our construction yard.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for managing all maintenance, repairs, assembly, and modifications for 
assigned heavy civil construction equipment. Ensures assigned personnel and equipment follow regulatory 
requirements and company policies.

 

We are seeking Equipment Superintendents within the following equipment classes:

 

• Cranes
• Piling & Drilling Equipment
• Auxiliary Equipment – Material / Earth Moving & Portable Construction Equipment

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Oversee team of mechanics in repairs, modifications, upgrades and general repairs of equipment.  Manage performance, lead, train and develop team, while being hands on when necessary to support equipment repair and modifications.      
  • May supervise the operations on a shutdown/night shift schedule. 
  • Develop and maintain open communication with crews, field engineers/coordinators, Safety, Quality, and clients.
  • Prepare maintenance and capital budgets for assigned equipment
  • Enforce company’s standard operating procedures, and ensure quality standards and that technical specifications are met.  
  • Monitor schedule and budget on active equipment work
  • Order parts and schedule vendor services
  • Oversee equipment maintenance records
  • Conduct frequent jobsite visits and inspections of equipment.  Occasionally may have to fix equipment on site.(Transportation Provided)
  • Promote safety as the top priority by enforcing the company and jobsite safety plan, along with all safety-related regulations
  • Develop and monitor job schedules and coordinate work with contractors and suppliers as needed
  • Advise key stakeholders of potential problems, safety issues, schedule difficulties, etc. Assist in resolving such problems as required.

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance including experience in one or more of the following equipment classes; cranes, piling & drilling equipment, or auxiliary equipment for dredging (i.e., pontoons, multicats, HLCV (heavy lifting crane vessels), booster stations, crew boats, soil compaction equipment like wick drains or ball joints).  Extensive experience with standard construction equipment (excavators, loaders, telehandlers, lifts, drills, portable equipment) preferred. 
  • At least 1+ year of supervisory experience, mentoring and training mechanics
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics
  • Individuals with the following Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) designations will be considered (but are not limited to):  91A, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M, 91X, 91Z and other specialties that are relevant
  • Understanding of cost management processes, planning, scheduling and logistics to execute a project
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for Quality, excellence and taking initiative; a passion for safety, with the ability to ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity and strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat and lift for long periods of time 
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind; and must be able to work for periods of up to 12 hours a day
  • Willing and able to travel as necessary to project sites in the US, up to 50% ;  Valid US Drivers License is required
