Position Overview

The Civil Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing field operations on a major freeway and interchange reconstruction project, including roadway widening, interchange reconfiguration, drainage, and the construction of over 50 bridges. This role will lead daily civil construction efforts, managing Foremen, craft labor, and subcontractors to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design specifications and schedules. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with extensive experience in heavy civil infrastructure, particularly on multi-phase highway and bridge projects involving complex traffic staging and coordination with public agencies.

Aligns well with Kiewit’s South Central District portfolio—specializing in self-perform operations, including mass grading, paving, structural bridge concrete, and complex heavy civil scopes. Experienced in producing estimates under aggressive timelines and navigating complex specifications, with a focus on constructability and risk mitigation.

Location

Open to supporting infrastructure projects based out of Dallas / Westlake, TX, with availability to travel to job sites across the South Central U.S., as needed for preconstruction site investigations, walkdowns, and field verifications.

Responsibilities

•   Supervise daily construction activities related to bridgework, roadway construction, grading, drainage, utilities, and traffic control.

  • Coordinate multiple crews, subcontractors, and work zones to maintain progress and schedule.

  • Lead field-level planning, execution, and coordination of complex construction sequences.

  • Monitor and enforce safety policies, environmental compliance, and quality standards.

  • Support project scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking through daily logs and look-ahead planning.

  • Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, utility coordinators, and client representatives to resolve field challenges and maintain alignment on priorities.

  • Ensure accurate tracking of quantities, labor, equipment, and materials for reporting and forecasting.

  • Mentor junior superintendents and field leaders; provide guidance and promote team development.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction experience with at least 2+ years directly in civil/heavy civil estimating.

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with highway, bridge, and interchange construction.

  • Familiarity with DOT standards and large-scale infrastructure delivery methods.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors.

  • Proficient in reading civil drawings and specifications and implementing field solutions.

  • Experience with construction management software such as Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Procore, or HCSS is a plus.

  • Proven commitment to safety, quality, and team success.
