Location

This position is based out of our Energy Corridor Office in Houston, TX and typically requires less than 25 percent travel. Opportunities for flexible work are available. 

Responsibilities

  • Serves as technical resource and point of contact for external or internal customers. 
  • Leads the development and delivery of all Process Engineering deliverables on mid- to large-size projects or proposals, with no supervision. Process Engineering scope commonly includes all phases of design development, from conceptual engineering, through front-end and detailed engineering, and including field support of startup and performance testing efforts.
  • Contributes to the development of project pursuits and cost estimates by, for instance, rapidly developing the basis of design, simulation, material balances, PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams), equipment type specification and initial sizing, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) development, Process man-hour estimating, and supporting pursuit client report generation.
  • Efficiently and effectively generate design deliverables such as:  Process Design Basis, philosophy documents, process simulations, material balances, PFDs, P&IDs (piping & instrumentation diagrams), equipment Process data sheets and engineering calculations including hydraulics, initial equipment sizing, required over-pressure load calculations, control valve rating, dynamic depressuring analyses, and performance flow curves.
  • Manages several different assignments simultaneously, Effective time and resource management
  • Lead the identification of changes to the scope of work during project execution.
  • Performs complex calculations and applies company, client, and industry standards correctly without supervision. Takes the lead when working with peers.
  • Generates solution strategies that allow the use of others to progress complex issues, consistent with client and company goals.
  • Identifies creative design solutions that optimize project capital or operating costs, equipment reliability, or project schedule.
  • Possesses critical analytical skills and is adept at utilizing good decision making
  • Applies techniques/technologies to improve processes and business results.
  • Reviews and corrects the work of engineers and designers as needed for the project.
  • Develops the technical abilities of less experienced engineers during the execution of projects; Provides guidance, leadership, and training to less experienced engineers
  • Regularly performs reviews of vendor documents to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Provide resolution of technical issues associated with design, construction, equipment and/or operations of refining and petrochemical processes. 
  • Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines, or internal customers to clearly convey work progress and plans.
  • Clearly conveys concepts verbally, during presentations, and in well-constructed, concise written documents.
  • Works collaboratively across all disciplines and departments.

Qualifications

  • Proficient on front-end design, detailed design, and field support of projects in Ammonia, Syngas, Gasification, or Hydrogen. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 15 year minimum relevant experience in refining and/or petrochemical industry.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience leading and developing a process engineering team. 
  • Proficient in the use of process simulators, such as HYSYS, Pro II and ProMax.
  • Travel < 20% expected.
  • Self directs work without supervision.
  • Effective time and resource management.
  • Provides guidance, leadership and training to less experienced engineers.
  • Coordinates work within discipline department.
  • Clearly conveys concepts verbally, during presentations, and in well-constructed, concise written documents.
  • Works collaboratively across departments.
