Position Overview

Kiewit OGC Engineering is seeking an Entry Level Instrumentations & Controls Designer. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates will be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Our rapidly growing OGC district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Our engineering teams bring power projects to life across North America in the following areas:

  • Gas-fired generation
  • Power delivery
  • Environmental retrofits
  • Renewables and new technology
  • Water/wastewater

Location

This position is based out of Houston, TX. Opportunities for flexible work are available. 

Responsibilities

•    Proactive about learning new information and skills.  
•    Initiates development of personal objectives aligned with those of the organization.
•    Seeks feedback and uses it effectively.
•    Has good understanding of the complete design and has good input into ways of improving the design.
•    Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments. 
•    Can draft basic instrument installations details using industry or Kiewit standards.
•    Recognize inefficiencies or misuse of symbology and questions.  
•    Identifies the customer’s both internally and externally.  
•    Handles various assignments, including rework, in timely manner to meet schedule deadlines.
•    Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity.
•    Performs quality checks of the design in a team environment to ensure accuracy.
•    Carries out assignments carefully while focused on details.
•    Basic 3D modeling knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

•    Associate degree Automation Technology or High School diploma + 2 years’ experience as a minimum.
•    0-2 year minimum relevant experience.
•    Receives limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignment from more experienced engineer.
•    Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
•    Communicates effectively orally and in writing.  Present ideas clearly and in professional manner.
•    Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.
•    Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with other to accomplish common goals and objectives. 
•    Willing and able to complete an On-Site/Field rotation in first 3 years of employment.
•    Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers. 
•    Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.
•    Intermediate AutoCAD skills.
•    SmartPlant experience preferred.
