Position Overview

The Digital Control System (DCS) CSU Programmer Lead is responsible for leading the design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of digital control systems for industrial facilities. This position provides technical leadership to a team of programmers and engineers, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation of process control systems. The DCS Programmer Lead will work closely with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams to develop control logic, optimize performance, and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.

This role directs staff in various functions necessary in their roles to meet or exceed all project commissioning objectives. It requires authoritative knowledge and extensive technical & operational background, holistic grasp of complex situations with the ability to move between intuitive and analytical approaches with ease, and see the overall picture and alternative approaches.

Location

Responsibilities

•    Lead the design, development, and implementation of DCS and PLC control strategies for new and existing process systems.
•    Configure and program DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa Centum, ABB 800xA, or Siemens PCS 7).
•    Supervise and mentor DCS programmers and technicians, providing technical guidance and quality control.
•    Develop functional control narratives, logic diagrams, and I/O lists in coordination with process and instrumentation engineers.
•    Oversee system integration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
•    Troubleshoot and optimize DCS logic to improve process reliability, safety, and efficiency.
•    Manage software version control, backups, and documentation for all control systems.
•    Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure proper configuration and integration of control systems.
•    Support cybersecurity compliance for control systems per industry standards (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443).
•    Prepare and review technical documentation including system architectures, interface diagrams, and user manuals.
•    Participate in hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and management of change (MOC) processes.
•    Ensure project milestones, budgets, and timelines are met while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline or, 10 to 15 years of equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years of CSU experience, including one previous assignment in a Senior CSU Leadership Role.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 10 years of prior experience working on International Oil & Gas Projects.
  • Strong Knowledge of process technology and the technical principles related to O&G, LNG, NGL, Gas Dehydration, SRU’s & GTL plants.
  • Knowledge of internal engineering systems and tools.
  • Understanding of Flow Measurement, Engineering practices, design methods & calculations. Knowledge of PC, Windows, Office Software and IT implementation background.
  • Oil and Gas Industry Safety Standards and requirements. 
  • Capable to Read, interpret & prepare applicable technical information. 
  • Knowledge and maintenance of PLC and PC based control systems.
