Position Overview
As a Senior Safety Manager, you will manage our Health, Safety and Environmental programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision. This position requires someone with the ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding our policies, procedures and software programs.
District Overview
Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design.
Location
This role is based in the Fort Worth District and is project-focused, with assignments primarily across the south-central United States and additional opportunities nationwide, requiring travel and potential relocation as project needs evolve.
Responsibilities
- Communicate between Kiewit and client management regarding safety matters.
- Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
- Responsible for overseeing incident investigations, reporting, and follow-through with corrective actions.
- Manage multiple complex heavy civil highway construction projects.
- Work closely with the facility safety manager to develop and implement leading indicator action plans.
- Manage and lead a team of 3–7 safety coordinators and technicians.
- Interact with demanding clients and maintain positive relationships with the client team.
- Routinely inspect highway construction sites, equipment, and machinery to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on proper safety practices when observed.
- Write, organize, and implement jobsite safety plans specific to heavy civil and highway operations.
- Perform daily reviews and inspections of the jobsite to ensure compliance with federal, state, client, and Kiewit safety policies.
- Coordinate and present safety training to support KOS and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation.
- Attend weekly general safety meetings, weekly supervisor safety meetings, and daily toolbox meetings, as required.
- Coordinate with the home office Safety Department on overall program management, project training needs, injury and citation management, OH&S reporting requirements, and other applicable matters.
Qualifications
• 8-10+ years' experience managing large oil and gas construction projects
• Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity
• Knowledge of construction safety, current local and federal regulations, hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills
• Ability to carry out duties in varying environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain
