Position Overview

The QC Tech will work a laboratory position at both Kiewit’s large hot asphalt plant and aggregate mine located near Weatherford, Texas. As a Quality Control Lab Technician for Kiewit, you will provide material testing on plant produced asphalt and aggregate materials to ensure that they meet our client specification requirements. The asphalt plant is located approximately halfway between Fort Worth, TX and Weatherford, TX.

District Overview

Kiewit's South-Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects where these aggregate materials could be used on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, underground utilities and more. Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to engineering design.

Location

Weatherford, TX – This person will support QC material testing operations at both Kiewit’s large hot asphalt plant and aggregate mine. Both plants are located near Weatherford, Texas (within the DFW area) and are approximately 40 miles apart from one another. The QC Tech will work at both locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing of asphalt and aggregate materials for conformance to requirements.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of various testing procedures for construction materials.
  • Provide understanding of TXDOT and local municipality specifications.
  • Report test results to management and recognize failing materials immediately.
  • Ability to understand asphalt and aggregate property relationships.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Capability to travel between aggregate & asphalt plant locations (approximately 40 miles apart from each other with the town of Weatherford, TX being the mid-point) to support QC operations as needed.
  • Working knowledge of materials' testing within the construction industry.
  • Certifications issued from HMAC for Asphalt Level 1A, AGG101, SB101, and/or SB102 are preferred, but not required.
  • If a candidate does not have one or more of the above certifications, training will be provided for the ideal candidate.
  • Ability to obtain certification(s) within 6 months.
  • Ability to gain additional certifications to support project testing and inspection as needed.
  • Experience in a fast-paced asphalt and/or aggregate production laboratory is preferred, but not required.
  • Capability to work construction hours during high seasons.
  • Self-starter with exceptional organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • The ability to accomplish goals successfully both independently and while working as a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
