Position Overview
As a Field Engineer III at Kiewit Water Facilities South, you will be the primary and lead engineer on the project, reporting directly to the Project Manager. You will oversee both field and office-level engineers, ensuring all engineering work is completed professionally and ethically. Your main responsibilities will include contract administration, project planning and scheduling, and project reporting. Additionally, you will provide advisory support to Project Management on contractual, legal, and other project issues.

Kiewit's Water Facilities South group is one of Kiewit's leading water/wastewater districts specializing in constructing water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, and desalination plants. Although we are headquartered in Dallas TX, with regional offices in Miami FL and Atlanta GA, we also pursue various projects stretching across the country. Responsibilities
Field Engineering:
- Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Perform quantity calculations by measuring and determining the percentage of completed/installed materials and work.
- Prepare work plans and work packages.
- Assist in field surveying and work layout support, including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data.
- Compile, process, and confirm daily labor timesheets.
- Prepare Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
- Order and schedule material deliveries.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
- Supervise field operations.
Office Engineering:
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Conduct basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
- Gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to customers, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
- Prepare purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested.
- Maintain and update project schedules as directed.
- Maintain basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions, including daily reports, photographs, RFIs, and memorandums.
- Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with job site management.
- Generate change orders and as-built data for review by the Project Manager.
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
Estimating:
- Review and analyze historical data related to the project, incorporating various productions and costs in bid preparation.
- Complete plan and specification reviews for assigned projects, assessing risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Project Manager.
Qualifications
- Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
- 2+ years of construction field experience.
- Experience in engineering and leading engineering teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and identifying discrepancies in engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Ability to access all points of a construction site in various climates and environments.
