Position Overview

As a Structures Field Engineer at Kiewit, you will be an integral part of the construction team, responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and delivery of structural components on heavy civil and infrastructure projects. This role combines technical knowledge with hands-on field experience to ensure that structural work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Northern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in various types of work in the heavy civil, power, transportation, and water resource markets. Although most of our work is regionally based in Northern California, we also pursue various projects across the west coast.   

Location

This position will be based in the southwest corner of Yosemite Valley at the El Portal Wastewater Treatment Facility.  Successful candidates will be eligible for relocation support.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret structural drawings and specifications to support field crews and craft supervision.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and progress tracking for installed structural components (e.g., concrete, rebar, steel).
  • Assist in developing detailed work plans and work packages for structural activities.
  • Support field surveying and layout for structural elements, including elevations, control points, and as-built documentation.
  • Compile and verify daily labor timesheets related to structural work.
  • Contribute to the development of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) specific to structural tasks.
  • Participate in site safety reviews, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions.
  • Coordinate material orders and delivery schedules for structural components.
  • Plan and schedule structural work crews, ensuring alignment with project milestones.
  • Provide direct supervision and support for structural field operations.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' construction field experience, preferably in Heavy Civil construction (roadway, concrete, asphalt, earthworks, Bridge, Rail, Water or Wastewater).
  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related.
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.

Base Compensation: $95,000/yr - $110,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
