Position Overview

Kiewit Foundations Co. is seeking an Operations Manager responsible for leading and influencing field operations across the entire business. Primary duties of the Operations Manager focus on leadership, technical field solutions, operational standards, continuous improvement, scheduling, cost management, fleet planning, craft engagement, and change management.  A strong technical and practical background in specialty foundations and geotechnical construction is required. Also, excellent communication skills as well as an ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position. 

 
The Operations Manager is part of the executive team and reports directly to the President of Kiewit Foundations. This position will work directly with Project Manager’s and their teams to execute our projects safely, with high quality, and in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.  They will also engage with estimating teams on a regular basis to brainstorm technical solutions, equipment, and tooling for bids.    

 

Frequent travel is expected.  The Operations Manager spends approximately 75% of their time visiting projects to implement build work standards.

Location

Kiewit Foundations Co. has its headquarters in Omaha, NE and operates across North America via regional locations in Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, and Lenexa, KS.  This position can be based out of any of these locations or other Kiewit office locations across the United States.    

Responsibilities
  • Establish, maintain, train, and continuously improve operational standards that deliver excellent safety and quality results. 
  • Work with executive team on fleet planning and management. 
  • Maintain supplier and key manufacturer relationships by working closely with equipment department. 
  • Positively influence project operations with training, technical expertise, and hands on planning and execution support. 
  • Closely work with team responsible for specialty tooling acquisition, utilization, and maintenance. 
  • Lead management and engagement of traveling craft. 
  • Coordinate training and compliance measures to ensure project procedures are followed. 
  • Mentor and develop operational leaders throughout the business. 
  • Assist with capture plans and estimate strategies. 
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • At least 15+ years’ related experience and/or training, specifically in the specialty foundation and/or geotechnical construction industry. 
  • Experience working in a team setting and directing/reviewing the work of others. 
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written). 
  • Expert knowledge (components, configuration options, applications, repair, troubleshooting, production constraints, etc.) of all types and makes of foundation drill rigs. 
  • Expert knowledge of drilled shaft means and methods 
  • Strong knowledge of dill tooling 
  • Strong all-around knowledge of geotechnical ground improvement techniques, structural deep foundation methods, and support of excavation (SOE) operations. 
  • Ground Improvement experience includes rigid inclusions, soil mixing, vibro-replacement (stone columns), vibro-compaction, compaction grouting, permeation grouting, jet grouting, and deep dynamic compaction. 
  • Structural deep foundation experience includes micropiles, drilled shafts, auger-cast-in-place piles, driven piles 
  • Support of excavation experience includes secant pile, anchors, and tiebacks 
  • The physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions. 
  • Ability and desire to travel to project sites on a regular basis 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Open to relocation 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in any discipline from a four-year college or university.
