Position Overview
Kiewit has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in the design and construction of hydromechanical and heavy mechanical equipment for dams, levees, and other hydraulic structures to support Kiewit Corporation’s Dams and Water Resources business across North America. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety leadership on projects and pursuits.
The Mechanical Engineer will work with an interdisciplinary team that includes civil, structural, geotechnical, hydrologic, hydraulic, and electrical engineers, as well as estimators, schedulers and other construction professionals, to identify mechanical related risks and develop appropriate designs for water supply, flood control, pump storage, and hydroelectric projects.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the production and/or review of engineering analyses, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and other deliverables, as well as directing the work of staff mechanical engineers and designers. They will also be responsible for working with Kiewit’s Quality Department to oversee construction efforts.

Location
This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office.
Responsibilities
• Working on preliminary engineering designs and EPC/design-build pursuits and projects; developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables; serving as lead mechanical engineer and engineer of record with responsibility for design recommendations and deliverables.
• Ensuring designs are completed with consistent application of design standards, technical approaches, and in accordance with the design quality management program.
• Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) services as part of interdisciplinary pursuit teams working to develop innovative and cost-effective bid phase designs, identify key mechanical design risks, and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
• Coordinating with the Design and Project Management Team to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery.
• Leading the exploration of alternate designs or new technologies to challenge the status quo and provoke exploration of new or innovative design solutions.
• Collaborating with staff and the Engineering Project Management Team to develop work scopes and labor estimates.
• Interfacing with Clients, Construction Personnel, Subconsultants, and Regulatory Agencies.
• Fostering an environment that emphasizes collaboration and coordination; providing feedback and encouraging learning to create growth opportunities; mentoring team members.
• Leading by example with respect to safety, quality, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Additional responsibilities may include:
• Prepare designs, plans and technical specifications for hydromechanical equipment and systems, which includes equipment such as gates, stoplogs, large valves, and turbine generators.
• Prepare designs, plans and technical specifications for heavy mechanical equipment and systems, which includes equipment such as cranes, hoists and miscellaneous lifting devices.
• Perform field and shop inspections of mechanical equipment and installations to assure conformance the intent of the plans and specifications.
• Work with estimators to create estimates of probable costs for installations.
• Work with manufacturers to ensure assembly and delivery schedules are maintained.
• Integrate with other project features to ensure design and construction activities are integrated into other phases of the project.
• Supervise and oversee the work of others as required.
Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of progressive mechanical design experience, with a strong focus on dam, hydropower, pumped storage, and water resources projects.
• Professional engineering registration, required.
• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, required.
• Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, preferred.
• EPC/design-build and discipline management experience, preferred.
• Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of hydromechanical and heavy mechanical engineering solutions associated with the rehabilitation of existing and design and construction of new dam, hydropower, levee, and other water resources projects, including ability to develop and evaluate innovative and cost-effective design solutions to problems and challenges.
• Knowledge of state/provincial and federal/National dam and levee guidance and regulations, including USACE design standards, US Bureau of Reclamation design standards, FERC guidelines, CDA guidance documents, etc.
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on interdisciplinary design coordination and working in team environments.
• Strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional rapport with people. Proven success working in a multi-disciplinary environment and directing the work of other technical staff.
• This position requires travel to project offices and work sites. Ability to travel based on business needs and requirements, including the physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions.

Base Compensation: $120,000 - $168,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
