Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an immediate opening for a dynamic Computer Aided Design (CAD) Operations Manager in our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) Group based in Denver, CO. You will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.

You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail/transit and systems, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. 

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Group’s Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Particularly on large design-build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff shares experiences gained, innovative concepts, and design best practices for all projects that we support.

This role will be based out of Kiewit’s Englewood, CO (South Denver area) office and typically requires less than 25 percent travel. 

  • Develops action plans with timelines in order to implement strategy; involves others in the process, incorporating best ideas into the plan and gaining buy-in through effective communication
  • Manage a team of Lead CAD Coordinators who are responsible for initiation and consistency of discipline design production teams, to include third parties 
  • CAD production processes for estimating, design and digital delivery to construction teams and clients
  • Define company and project CAD standards and execution plans
  • CAD customization and standardization to enhance productivity
  • Manage CAD support and training services to resolve company issues 
  • Collaborate with design and engineering software vendor to promote company objectives
  • Mentor and develop CAD team members
  • Manage CAD process across internal and external teams
  • Develop, implement, and maintain CAD quality plans 
  • Maintain documentation of all developed and enhanced workflows
  • Perform weekly coordination calls and periodic presentations regarding CAD related items
  • Coordinate with IT to solve local and project level problems related to CAD deliverables and project technology needs
  • Maintain and support workflows for internal and external design content management
  • 10+ years’ experience with corporate and project implementation of CAD applications
  • Experience with the implementation of US DOT or other client specific CAD standards on projects
  • Design production experience with InRoads, MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D and AutoCAD for design production
  • Experience with Civil Information Modeling
  • Experience with Design Content Management via Bentley ProjectWise
  • Experience with front end digital coordination efforts, ensuring all discipline design and production teams are enabled and in compliance with project requirements
  • Experience with the definition, documentation and implementation of CAD standards and execution plans
  • Experience in collaborating with or managing enterprise level information management teams
  • Experience managing and maintaining company CAD support and training services
  • Experience with a multi-format CAD production environment and corresponding interoperability challenges
  • Ability to communicate, train, effect change and implement improvements
  • Strong teamwork, leadership and motivational capabilities
  • Excellent understanding of engineering work processes
  • Self-motivated and results focused, with the ability to work with minimal, remote supervision 
  • Good written and oral communication, particularly English to facilitate working with teams located all over North America
  • A problem solving, conceptual thinker and able to work with complex systems
  • Associates degree in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology or similar program experience
