Position Overview
At Kiewit, our Human Resources Operations team has transformed our business, utilizing best-in-class strategies, turning them into real-world execution. With 30,000 people, 7 complex markets, our HR generalists work closely with the front line – partnering with leaders to improve people programs in their organizations, while supporting employees at all levels. We are looking for someone with experience in Human Resources who is comfortable performing tactical functions for a business district/division and knows how to execute HR strategies that support the business to help achieve their objectives. In this role, you will be expected to execute both strategic and tactical initiatives for our Mining division that executes mine management, production, construction and maintenance all over North America.

We expect you to serve as a trusted advisor and consult with leaders in the organization, providing HR guidance as appropriate. Under the direction of an HR Director, you will have the opportunity to make decisions and influence the business with great coaching to get you there.
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure HR execution and performance for your organization, a team of 100 Staff and 500 craft employees located around the country,. You’ll act as a liaison with HR Shared Services teams, to ensure the delivery of support to exceed internal client needs, while leading various projects and initiatives as determined in the annual planning cycle.

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit. In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence. Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization.
Our HR Business Partners are front facing, embedded with the division(s) that they support. As an Assistant HRBP, you will work with key leaders as well as our craft teams who are some of the most highly skilled and experienced professionals in the industry. Our Mining group offers a broad range of capabilities, from exploration, geologic analysis, permit applications, and evaluation and feasibility studies to computer-assisted planning, facility design, marketing, contract administration and transportation coordination. Our mining experience includes constructing infrastructure, performing mine services or contract mining in coal, copper, diamond, gold, nickel, platinum, potash and rare earth mines throughout North America.
Location
This position is located in our Lonetree Colorado office. Relocation is offered for this position.
Responsibilities
- Support the organization with both transactional/tactical and strategic functions/actions.
- Ability to extract and analyze data and convert into information for leaders to drive business decisions that positively impact the workforce within the organization.
- Monitor workforce productivity, retention and engagement for trends and changes that require intervention. Develop and lead programs that maximize employee development, engagement and retention.
- Manage interim wage adjustments as needed – adjustments, title change, hourly to salary conversion, etc.
- Support the development of HR related strategies and ensure implementation and execution.
- Provide day to day performance management guidance to your division and frontline leadership. Ensure coaching, feedback and performance systems are in place to maximize workforce productivity; provide support and guidance on internal transfers and promotions.
- Support the execution of performance improvement plans and provide consultation as necessary. Lead succession planning processes & consult with managers on effective staff assignments and strategy.
- Development of succession plans and skills gap analysis, ensuring that they are consistently reviewed and that effective actions are in place.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree in HR or business-related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years in an HR Manager, HR Generalist, or HRBP role with similar responsibilities as outlined above in a position where you have executed systems thinking, program execution and process innovation. Broad background in HR required. Demonstrated ability to execute both tactical and strategic initiatives for an organization.
- Experience working in a construction, mining or similar environment highly desired. Experience working with craft employees desired.
- Ability to travel overnight throughout the US up to 30% of the time and willingness to go to project sites regularly to support employees and leaders within the division, which could be anywhere in North America, including Alaska.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence individuals and groups to gain buy-in and acceptance of new ideas and approaches. Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships with Leaders and employees, displaying sound business acumen and knowledge in the HR field. Ability to face conflict/problems and resolve in a professional, positive way.
- Strong analytical skills, utilizing data to inform and drive business decisions. Experience using analytical software/dashboards, and advanced use of MS Office Suite.

Base Compensation: 100,000 - 125,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
