Position Overview
- The Welding Engineer will assist in the planning, organization, control, integration and completion of works related to the welding scope of the reactor building.
- The Welding Engineer oversees all on-site welding activities related to the reactor building mechanical and piping installation.
- Reporting to the Manager, Weld Development and Technology with a functional reporting line to the Area Lead or Project Director of the scope they are supporting withing DNNP.

Location
The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities
- Oversee technical aspects of projects and initiatives undertaken by the Reactor Building team, specifically with regards to welding and construction.
- Prepare Technical Specifications (ATS’s) or Proposal RFQ’s to support proposal or project execution
- Evaluate vendors’ quotations and recommend Vendor selection based on performance specifications, pricing and guarantees
- Knowledge of how to manage, implement, and provide technical guidance to execute procedure qualification records using ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes.
- Review and produce technical documentation in relation to welding fabrication.
- Coordinate mechanical testing of PQRs, WPSs, WPQ and WMQs with local labs.
- Make recommendations for continuous improvement of welding innovation in Nuclear sector.
- Coordinate with Vendors to ensure timely and robust Non-Destructive Examination schedules required by the Project Specification and applicable Welding Codes and Standards.
- Communicate with welding wire (consumable) and welding equipment vendors to review, assess, procure and commission welding related equipment.
- Review code of construction and customer technical requirements to provide technically accurate direction.
- Support the entire production line from fabrication to final on-site installation.
- Provides assurance that activities are performed in accordance with written and approved policy, standards, programs and applicable procedures.
- Provides and ensure effectiveness of the liaison function between the designer and construction teams in terms of information flow and problem resolution.
- Maintains high standards related to final product quality.
- Owner and Management of Non-Conformance Reporting specifically to material and welding activities
- Be based on site to support the assembly and construction activities.
- Carry out site safety inspections.
- Participate in company-wide initiatives aimed at overall continuous improvement.
- Make technical presentations to executives and customers as necessary to effectively communicate technical execution, problem resolution and other discussions
- Participate in Construction, Inspection and Test Plan (CITP) reviews for all welding scopes to ensure correct WPS's/procedures are utilized for the application
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in an Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronics, etc.) discipline, with an emphasis on welding.
- 6+ Years of experience in project engineering in a construction environment.
- 6+ Years of experience in welding within a construction or manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience with ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes.
- Knowledge of ASME Code Class 1, 2, 3, MC, A & B vessels; Class 1, 2, 3, A & B piping systems; and Class CS & SM core support structures.
- Familiar with welding principles. (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)
- Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an asset.
- Familiar with weld development initiatives such as PQRs, WPSs, and codes of construction.
- Previous experience with the selection of welding consumables for fabrication.
- Previous experience with basic metallurgical analysis, techniques, and technical report reviews.
- Proficient in software related to the construction industry (e.g. Primavera Scheduling software, AutoCAD, SAP etc.)
- Proven organizational skills to handle multiple deadlines and tasks within a fast-paced environment.
- Able to produce solid models and 2D manufacturing drawings, Autodesk Inventor or an equivalent CAD package, is considered an asset.
- Experience working under a Nuclear Quality Program preferred, knowledge of N690 and N299 standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
- Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.
- Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task/ Service orientated.
- Flexibility to work in both field and office
- Kiewit's background check process includes a full security check and clearance process as well as reference checks. The security clearance process includes a comprehensive list of previous residences, employment, education and other pertinent information. Those with valid Bruce Power and/or OPG security clearance are strongly preferred.
- A Construction Project Welding and Fabrication specialism is desired, to include integrating and working with all levels of the Management Team and the direct and indirect workforce on the ground. #LI-IS1
