Position Overview

The Project Engineer will support construction activities by planning, organizing and implementing those management duties (i.e., project controls systems, engineering interface, subcontract and materials management, purchasing, scheduling). The role will provide project administration or support for larger projects and manage technical and administrative staff to facilitate instruction management services.                       

Embedded in the Project organization, reporting to the Area Lead of the supported scope.
Functional relations with various departments (e.g., Quality, Purchasing, Construction, Safety, Design Engineering, Legal, etc.).

Location

The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

Requisition

  • Prepare requisitions that meet design specifications, applicable codes, and standards, including drawings, systems classification records, and bills of materials.
  • Prepare technical specifications or proposal RFQs to support project execution.
  • Evaluate vendor quotations and recommend vendor selection based on specifications, pricing, and guarantees.
  • Identify requirements for purchasing items and services.
  • Select and assign quality assurance programs for procured items.

Planning/Design Phase

  • Review customer specifications and design documents.
  • Interface with design services and the customer on design-related matters.
  • Support the constructability review team during design evolution and collaborate with the design engineering team to resolve findings.

Execution

  • Receive, review, and assemble documentation for work packages to ensure design compliance.
  • Communicate technical and quality requirements to the preparers of construction drawings and procedures.
  • Support proposal development for engineering services and equipment.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to Project Coordinators.
  • Collaborate with the PC, Trades Supervision, and Quality Specialist (QS) to complete the CITP.

Commissioning

  • Coordinate and support the preparation of commissioning/pre-operational test plans.
  • Conduct final walkdowns and approve punch lists required for construction closeout.

General

  • Collaborate with external engineers and internal teams to create technical drawings and schematics.
  • Provide support on technical solutions for non-conformance reports (NCRs) or site requirements.
  • Establish interface control and procedures for document management and design interfaces.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

General

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng), preferably Civil or Mechanical.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, materials, and applicable standards.
  • Proficient in construction industry software (e.g., Primavera Scheduling, AutoCAD, SAP).
  • Familiarity with Nuclear Codes and Standards (CSA, ASME, ASTM, AWS, etc.) and nuclear-class equipment procurement.
  • Understanding of construction change management processes.
  • Strong organizational skills for handling deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work in both field and office settings.

Mechanical

  • Familiarity with the design, construction, and operation of power plant components (e.g., valves, piping, instrumentation, rotating equipment).
  • Experience with standard construction techniques for tank building.

Civil

  • Experience with concrete material codes and standards. #LI-GH
