Position Overview

As an Earthworks Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

Location

The position will be based on our project in Darlington, ON. The successful candidate will be local to Darlington, Oshawa or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate. 

Responsibilities

· Maintain excellent relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors & public.

· Implement and enforce Kiewit's corporate health and safety program.

· Adhere to Kiewit's Policy & Procedures Manual

· Be an ambassador of the company both internally and externally.

· Ensure compliance with Kiewit union obligations.

· Ensure project profitability, schedule adherence and customer satisfaction.

· Develop project master schedule with Project Manager. Ensure subcontractors comply with project master schedule.

· Utilize project master schedule to create detailed 3 week schedules for subcontractor use

· Develop recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy.

· Review and update schedule, cost forecast and cash flow with Project Manager for PSR

· Plan and supervise the work of subcontractors and own forces on the project including determining methods of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment and work schedules.

· Assume responsibility for productivity of subtrades, efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project.

· Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications and project schedule and budget.

· Interface with client representatives, design consultants, other contractors, etc.

· Ensure project is constructed within project quality guidelines.

· Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, rental records, concrete logs and as-built drawings, etc.

· Supervise, mentor, coach and train project personnel.

· Ensure compliance with Kiewit union obligations.

· Assist in securing new work by participating in proposals and presentations.

· Organize and chair weekly subcontractor and safety meetings.

· Participate in basic layout and field engineering activities.

· Maintain lines and levels – verify as built conditions.

Qualifications

· Education to include a technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.

· Minimum 8 years of experience in earthworks

· Minimum 5 years construction and subcontractor supervision experience or equivalent

· Proven ability to successfully supervise construction projects.

· The proven ability to effectively manage field staff.

· Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction such as technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements

· Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential.

· Good presentation skills.

· Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.

· Comfortable walking and standing for long periods of time and lifting.

Base Compensation: $138,000/yr - $144,000/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
