Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for dynamic Utility Coordinators in our growing Design Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. 

District Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects.  Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk.  Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety.   Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff shares experiences gained, innovative concepts, and best practices for all projects that we support.

This position is based in the United States, preferably in TX, New Mexico, CO or Kansas with 50 - 75% travel


•    During proposal stage, the successful candidate will coordinate with utility companies to gain information, come up with conceptual design for any and all relocations.
•    Understands the basics of construction sequencing, scheduling, and operations planning
•    Participates in constructability reviews and design task forces to develop innovative solutions and minimize construction risks
•    Assesses scope impact of potential design options
•    Learns to estimate and track project quantities
•    Understands temporary design requirements 
•    Understands contractual risks for operations and impacts of change on resources 
•    Acts in a professional manner in all matters
•    Learns and applies KIE’s standard operating procedures
•    Monitors budget and schedule for design deliverables
•    Learns about project risk items and mitigation strategies
•    Learns design and construction scheduling
•    Work is both in the field and office.   When we win the job, work will be in the field in office (proposal phase) role
•    Meet with utility owners - travel extensive 50-75%, depends on where we are in the process.  During the project is every week.  Travel everywhere, depends on job and pursuit


•     Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree, or equivalent experience in a construction-related position
•     1-4+ years of related professional experience in the infrastructure design or construction fields
•     Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
•     Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic CAD modeling experience is an asset. 
•     Strong organizational and time management skills
•     Strong written and verbal communications skills
•     Attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
•     Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
•     Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
•     Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment

Additional Requirements:

  • Absent an approved exemption, due to federal, state, local, provincial and/or client-requirements, this position requires an individual to be fully vaccinated by an FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine upon hire and as a condition of continued employment.

Base Compensation: $75,214  - $112,822 
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
