We are looking for an HR Generalist (Assistant HRBP) to join our team, with 5+ years of experience in Human Resources and construction (or similar industrial environment), with experience performing both tactical and strategic functions.   In this role, you will report to an HR Business Partner and work closely with department leadership teams, using your HR skills to advise leaders and positively impact the workforce.  Primary responsibility will be to ensure HR execution and performance within your assigned business units. You’ll serve as a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure their support exceeds internal client needs, while leading various projects and initiatives as determined in the annual planning cycle.  It will be essential that you establish a strong partnership and execute initiatives related to developing and retaining a talented and engaged workforce.

District Overview

HR Operations is an integral partner and service provider at Kiewit.  In recent years, we have gone from decentralized HR groups to a unified, shared service team, with various HR Centers of Excellence.  Our vision is to be a best-in-class international HR organization. 

 

Location

This position requires working in our Cranford, NJ office.  Relocation is not offered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of HR related strategies and ensure implementation and execution.
  • Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices, trends and data points to drive enhancements.
  • Serve as a change agent by influencing key stakeholders in support of organizational effectiveness.
  • Support the development of succession plans and skills gap analysis, ensuring that they are consistently reviewed and that effective actions are in place.
  • Ensure coaching, feedback and performance systems are in place to maximize workforce productivity.
  • Lead implementation of programs to drive development, employee engagement and retention.
  • Serve as advisor to leadership teams by providing insights, consultation and support.
  • Act as a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure the delivery of support to exceed internal client needs.
  • Provide feedback to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.

 

In addition, here are examples of other functions that you could be providing your business division:  

 

  • Consult with managers on effective staff assignments and strategy.
  • Serve as liaison for high-risk terminations or separations of employees.
  • Support implementation of standard communications, processes and reporting for HR annual cycle activities
  • Assist HRBP with driving execution of leadership development programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity
  • Monitor workforce productivity, retention and engagement for trends and changes that require intervention.
  • Provide needed insight and analysis to annual wage and bonus planning process.
  • Manage interim wage adjustments as needed – adjustments, title change, hourly to salary conversion, etc..
  • Provide HR support for District Management Teams (DOR, HR Business Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resources, or related field is required
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with a working knowledge of multiple human resources areas like workforce planning and talent development required.  
  • Must have previous experience performing similar duties as outlined above, with the ability to strike a balance between tactical support, strategic HR program execution and process innovation.  Consultative, with the ability to lead, coach and able to analyze data that impact the workforce.  
  • Experience working in HR in Marine construction, civil construction or Industrial environments required
  • Ability to travel locally as needed to project sites in NJ & NY and ability to travel overnight to up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to communicate and influence individuals and groups to gain buy-in and acceptance of new ideas and approaches.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships, with business acumen, analytical skills, and high attention to detail.
