Market Analyst, Energy Market

Perform general market research and evaluate market/project opportunities that will drive business direction, decisions, and growth in Kiewit Energy Group’s markets. Primary markets include renewable energy, oil, gas, and petrochemicals, carbon capture, and hydrogen, with a secondary market focus on select industrial sectors. 

This position will require self-initiative and will focus on the Canadian market, with other countries in North America (United States and Mexico) also being supported. Successful candidates must be motivated to learn new subjects and clearly articulate key concepts. 

By providing the company with the most recent, accurate, and insightful information, the market intelligence role will aid Kiewit leadership in understanding the market so that key stakeholders may optimize business strategies to align with emerging, current, and predicted, market trends.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand the changing market and policy dynamics within the Canadian energy markets, including the impact of carbon taxes on industry economics
  • The ability to read, understand, quantify, and articulate the impact of policy changes and regulations, concisely, to senior management
  • Aggregate and analyze industry, competitor, client, and project level data to simulate / predict project viability and financial outcomes
  • Build and populate Excel based financial models and forecasts 
  • Be able to complete ad hoc requests and balance multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Act as an internal consultant to the business and produce compelling presentations with content rich material and with backup data / analysis for use by senior leadership
  • Assist in establishing the research group as the internal go-to group for thought leadership and expertise around key topics
  • Collaborate with other groups, as appropriate, to develop a strategic perspective on new markets and technologies
  • Identify and design research projects as required; fill in gaps in market and organizational intelligence
  • Conduct research and analysis to provide and communicate business and market insights

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in economics, finance, engineering, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of professional experience, preferably in market analysis, strategy, or consulting
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft BI and / or other data analytic packages
  • Desire to study the energy markets and take on the role of subject matter expert
  • Strong presentation skills, solid interpersonal and communication skills (self-starter)
  • Exceptional business judgment and analytical awareness
  • Great work ethic and professional demeanor; comfort working with executive management
  • Ability to work both independently, and as a team, to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
