Position Overview

The position will deliver supply chain services for procurement of tagged engineered equipment, subcontracts, professional services, commodities, permanent plant materials, and small tools and supplies.  This position will interface with district management, engineering management, estimating management, design professionals and project and site management. Duties also include negotiating with equipment vendors, material vendors, subcontractors, and service providers, while consulting with key internal stakeholders to help manage supply chain risks.

This position will be based in Calgary, AB. This is a shared service environment in a professional office setting.



•Research and pre-qualify suppliers who will be invited to participate in any Request for Proposal (RFP) process based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities and the supplier’s reputation and history.
•Prepare/issue RFPs or Request for Quotations (RFQs), evaluate bidder proposals and perform the quote comparison process.
•Bridge strategic relationships and partnerships with key suppliers and subcontractors
•Interfaces with various estimating and execution teams for different projects being assigned to
•Negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors and professional service providers
•Perform procurement analytics, reporting and deliverables and take actions when required
•Undergo audits to ensure procurement policies and procedures are followed
•Provide feedback to assist in analyzing market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability
•Develop, propose and implement continuous improvement on procurement and contract management strategies, instructions, policies and procedures
•Identify inefficiencies in the process and proposing better methodologies that will work within system limitations
•Coach new hire and coop students/ interns


•Operate the procurement portion in In Eight Estimate (resource management, quote taking and closeout process)
•Help with formulating procurement strategies including selection of appropriate bidders and identification of key commercial strategies
•Report progress during estimate reviews


•Perform all aspects of procurement from pre-bid to closeout – involved in project procurement planning
•Procure the highest quality materials at the lowest possible cost in correct amounts per specifications and drawings with buyouts
•Perform end-to-end contract lifecycle management activities after award of contract not limited to progress and invoice approvals and change order administration
•Interface with various other departments and disciplines to evaluate and monitor contract performance, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations
•Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with equipment vendors, material vendors, professional service providers and subcontractors, while consulting with corporate attorneys and project leadership to minimize project and corporate risk while maintaining commercial competitiveness
•Conduct commercial and contractual negotiations (in coordination with internal stakeholders) and assist with technical clarifications in order to recommend vendors/subcontractors who meet project requirements not limited to budget and schedule at the estimating, execution and site purchasing levels.
•Conform to procurement policies and procedures to project team
•Responsible for projections, cash flow planning, expediting, delivery schedules and project procurement reporting
•Help resolve vendor or subcontractor grievances and claims
•Leverage vendors/subcontractors across multiple procurements to create cost savings to project(s)
•Perform contract closeout activities including release of retainage and participation in project lessons learned and supplier performance evaluations 


•Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and have a general knowledge of database utilization, SAP Experience a plus 
•Bachelor’s degree in construction management, business, engineering, supply chain management, or equivalent degree or professional or military experience
•At least five (5) years of experience in an engineering and/or construction-related role; experience in EPC.
•Advanced knowledge of all areas of procurement, including procurement execution, estimating, expediting, offsite supplier quality, subcontract administration, and site purchasing 
•Detail-oriented, highly motivated with the ability to effectively manage time 
•Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
•Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objective
•Ability to relocate for long and short-term field assignments
•Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently and handle multiple projects at the same time in both estimating and project execution capacity
