Position Overview
As a Transportation Compliance Specialist, you are responsible for maintaining compliance within Kiewit's and Transport Canada’s policies and programs. You will work with Project Operations staff to implement and manage detailed, proactive systems to ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial Transport Canada and MOTI regulations and Company requirements. This position reports to the DOT (Department of Transportation) Compliance Manager.

Location
This position is based in Burnaby BC or Calgary AB. Frequent travel within Canada is required.

Responsibilities
- Assists the Transportation Compliance Manager with all aspects of development, implementation, standardization, and management of the Company’s Transportation Compliance Programs, including CMV Files, Transport Canada Driver Qualification Files and Drug/Alcohol Programs, Vehicle Inspections, Hours of Service, Driver training, etc.
- Development and implementation of standardized processes for Driver Background Checks, Pre-Employment Medical Screening & Physicals, Previous Employer Release of Information, etc. in coordination & conjunction with Human Resources and Operations Personnel when applicable.
- Work with Project Operations and Safety staff to support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of action items, and leverage learning across organization for all vehicle accidents involving CMV’s. Actively liaise with the maintenance department on Assessments.
- Conduct internal compliance audits and risk assessments to ensure effective and consistent implementation of regulatory and internal requirements at all company locations. Advise on the investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents, and non-conformances while making recommendations for corrective actions on assessments.
- Review pending and upcoming changes to Federal & Provincial Transport Canada regulations to ensure the Company is prepared for future compliance requirements.
- Work with Project Operations and Safety staff to prepare for and represent the Company during Transport Canada audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Federal and Provincial transportation regulatory bodies, Health & Safety Regulations, including a working knowledge of the Transport Canada Letters of Interpretation and other Regulatory Guidance.
- Experience working with government agencies, and local city officials.
- Strong leadership and organization, with the ability to direct and achieve priorities, goals, and strategies with limited supervision.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, and dispute resolution skills. Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret regulations and other documents. Must possess strong organizational skills, be self-directed, and operate as a decision maker.
- Must have the ability to work with business operations in a safety-first culture.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn new platforms (PowerBi & InEight). Experience with SAP a plus.
- Ability to work in both office and field environment, some travel required.
