Position Overview

Our Sr. HR Manager, known as the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), is a senior level leader in a Kiewit Business. In this vital role, you will lead all people strategy and will be the head change agent for the assigned business(s). Our HRBPs are businesspeople first and HR professionals second. This approach promotes a business-minded alignment of people strategy. The HRBP achieves business objectives through the effective utilization (brokering) of our Centers of Excellence (COE). This position will work closely with Business Unit leadership teams. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure HR execution and performance for assigned business units, in collaboration with HR Shared Services to drive efficiencies in all areas of HR processes and programs.

District Overview

This role will support our Western Canada District Office. Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia.  We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty! Our current opportunities are spread across the entire west coast of Canada. 


This position is based out of our office in Burnaby, BC, with up to 30% travel. 


  • Drive the development and execution of HR related strategies to fit a fast paced, agile, ever changing workplace 
  • Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices, trends, and data points to drive enhancements
  • Serve as a change agent by influencing and advising key stakeholders in support of organizational effectiveness 
  • Participate in strategic people planning by coordinating staffing needs and priorities - while also finalizing tactical people plans & goals (Initiatives, Succession, Hiring Targets, KPIs, etc.)
  • Support Business Planning by developing tactical concepts/ideas to execute people strategy
  • Assist with rollout and update communications of District plans and progress (District and Corporate)
  • Work with operational leaders to consult on effective organizational design and optimize talent
  • Ensure utilization of employee feedback surveys and monitor workforce (Onboarding, Exit Interview)
  • Act as a liaison with HR Shared Services to ensure the delivery of support to exceed internal client needs 
  • Provide feedback to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes 
  • Provide HR support for District Management Teams (Monthly Updates, HR Business Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, etc.) 
  • Drive HR budget planning, cost analysis and reporting for District office related operations 
  • Drive execution of leadership development programs and expectations to maximize workforce productivity


This position requires an experienced HR expert who can strike a balance between critical thinking, HR program execution and process innovation.   


  • Ability to navigate strong personalities and ever changing environment
  • Progressive HR experience with working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines 
  • Ability to travel overnight throughout Canada and the US up to 30% of the time 
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • HR generalist experience in construction, engineering or similar industry background in a large, complex environment strongly preferred 
  • Shared Services / Center of Excellence environment preferred 
  • Strong focus on strategy to pair with day-to-day tactical duties
  • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships 
  • Sound business acumen and analytical skills
