Position Overview

 

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a Senior Traffic Engineer in our Design Group in Burnaby, BC.


You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, roadway, maintenance of traffic (MOT), civil, drainage and rail, disciplines. KIE is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. 
 

As a Senior Traffic Engineer, your ultimate goal is to ensure our roadways that we design are designed in a safe and efficient way, such that a drivers’ experience is safe and efficient.  


You will be expected to coordinate with project teams in Canada and the United States to design and product traffic engineering designs for design/build projects in North America.

Location

 

This position is based out of our Burnaby, BC office with opportunities to travel within the Canada and US regions to projects as required.

Responsibilities

 

  • Produce and deliver traffic engineering components for North American projects through coordination with multiple design teams.   
  • Lead traffic modeling, analysis, and design tasks, acting in responsible charge as needed.
  • Conduct capacity analyses, traffic counts on roadways to determine traffic volume and oversee Traffic investigations in the field.
  • Conduct traffic simulation / modeling software including Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, HCS, and other similar platforms.
  • Recommend traffic safety enhancements on basis of field studies.
  • Design traffic signals, signage plans (urban, highway, rural), marking plans.
  • Design of bicycle facilities (marking, geometry).
  • Design of geometric layouts, including simulations of turning maneuvers.
  • Analyze and evaluate complex design and construction phasing plans to formulate effective traffic engineering strategies, and to ensure compliance with the feasibility and safety issues.
  • Create design concepts and alternatives for traffic signals, signing and striping, and  Execute final design of project traffic elements such as traffic signals, ITS, signing and striping plans, and MOT plans.
  • Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible.
  • Lead project technical meetings and provide coordination to resolve design issues plans.

Qualifications

 

  • 10+ years of transportation project experience, performing similar traffic duties as outlined above.
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Canadian engineer registration required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the MUTCD, Roadside Design Guide and construction traffic control design.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of designing traffic signal systems, signing and striping elements for transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with design-build delivery is preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience of MicroStation, AutoCAD platforms. 
  • Skills in traffic simulation / modeling software including Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, HCS, Aimsun and other similar platforms.
  • Experience in developing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Plans is desired.
  • Experience developing construction plans for transportation projects is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Work will primarily be performed in the Burnaby, BC office, but must be able to travel to project sites and attend meetings across North America as needed by the project.
