Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers is currently seeking an Intermediate Level Civil Designer. In this role you will perform a variety of design and CADD production tasks related to our civil engineering projects and miscellaneous support for construction activities. The ideal candidate will have at least ten plus years’ experience in engineering plan production, be familiar with current technical tools/programs/software, and CAD production practices.

Location

This position is based out of our Burnaby, BC office. 

Responsibilities

•    Provide drafting of roadway, highway, drainage and utilities, and any other civil engineering related design elements.
•    Prepare civil engineering sketches and drawings
•    Assist with 2D design and 3D modeling such as roadway corridor and earthworks grading;  
•    Manage and mentor Entry-Level Civil Designers.
•    Assist Senior-Level Civil Designers on day-to-day activities as required.
•    Coordinate with project team by utilizing the Project Database; report project progression updates and or issues to Lead Designer as required.  
•    Assist in the review of designs for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking. 
•    Help create guidelines, checklists or other applicable knowledge base documents as assigned.
•    Collaborate with team members in design and drafting techniques to challenge abilities; provide constructive feedback to aid in employee development.
•    Collaborate with various discipline and subsidiary groups to provide expertise and support business needs.
•    Assist in completion of as-builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
•    Participate in project and layout meetings; coordinate and assist in activities of project team members.
•    Assist Senior-Level Civil Designers in estimating design and drafting efforts and manhours for pursuit and execution phases of projects. 

Qualifications

•    A graduate of an accredited civil engineering technology or engineering design and drafting diploma program
•    Four to ten years of experience in engineering plan production and civil design
•    Proficient in utilizing a Computer-Aided Drafting program such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.  Knowledge of MicroStation, GeoPak, InRoads, OpenRoads, Navis Works is desirable
•    Basic knowledge of using Projectwise or any other cloud based file collaboration system is required
•    Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems, spreadsheets, and databases is required.
•    Knowledge of BC municipal and provincial CAD standards and specifications is required.
•    Ability with adopting to new CAD standards and specifications from other municipalities, provinces or US states is desirable.
•    Attention to details is required.
•    Ability to effectively communicate through emails and utilize electronic meeting requests is required.
•    Excellent interpersonal and teamworks skills are required.
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment is required.
•    Experience in managing several or a group of Entry-Level Designers is desirable.
•    Experience in estimating design and drafting efforts and manhours for pursuit and execution phases of project is desirable.
