Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for a Geotechnical Engineer to operate as POC for Support of Excavation (SOE) and Specialty Foundations design from bid through construction while growing Kiewit’s geotechnical design engineering team based in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety leadership on projects and pursuits. The Geotechnical Engineer will be the primary KIE POC while providing engineering support to and collaborating with Kiewit Foundations West and the Burnaby Construction Engineering team.
The Senior Geotechnical Engineering will work on an interdisciplinary team including geotechnical engineers, specialty foundation engineers, structural engineers, estimators, schedulers and foundation construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects.

Location
This position will be based out of Burnaby BC Canada.
Responsibilities
- Technical POC working with the estimating team during client interactions.
- Coordinate between various design and construction teams while interfacing with discipline leads.
- Providing project support during the bid phase working with disciplines to evaluate innovative and cost-effective design solutions to ground improvement and SOE challenges.
- Working with the pursuit team to help identify key design and construction risks,and develop plans to mitigate these risks.
- Working on Design-Build projects as the Geotechnical Engineer-Of-Record responsible for developing design recommendations and producing design deliverables for SOE and Specialty Foundations.
- Supporting efforts to capture and discuss lessons learned throughout Kiewit Construction Districts.
- Training and developing staff engineers.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of progressive, relevant geotechnical engineering, support of excavation, and specialty foundations experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, required (U.S. also desired)
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field, required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience considered.
- Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering, SOE design and construction, specialty foundations, and 2-D and 3-D Finite Element modeling.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on interdisciplinary design and construction coordination, experience working in a team setting, and directing/reviewing the work of others.
- Strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional rapport with clients. Proven success in initiating, promoting, and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships amongst a team.
- Ability to travel to project sites and the physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions.
- Design-Build experience, GeoStructural and/or field experience is a plus.
- Travel up to 25% or as business requirements.
