Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Survey Manager to support our projects in the Southeast District. This role involves performing survey calculations, preparing estimates, and creating detailed design drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and AGTEK software. The ideal candidate will be able to work both in the field and the office, ensuring accurate and efficient project execution. The candidate should plan to spend about 30% of their time in the field observing and instructing survey operations.

Kiewit's Southeast District specializes in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets, playing a significant role in building infrastructure throughout the southeastern United States. Our operations include highways, airports, mass transit, tunnels, water and wastewater facilities, dams, and other infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Survey Calculations: Conduct detailed survey calculations, preparing accurate 3D models, drawings, and exhibits using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant software tools to ensure project precision.
  • Estimating: Develop comprehensive estimate exhibits for bid reviews using AGTEK software and additional estimation tools, ensuring competitive and precise project bids.
  • Design Model Review: Verify the accuracy of design files prior to field application, maintaining a strong coordination with designers to facilitate clear communication regarding design survey requests and model file progress.
  • Field Survey Operations: Oversee the execution of field survey operations by managing staffing, scheduling, and official documentation processes, while conducting regular reviews of field procedures for compliance and efficiency.
  • Contractual Requirements: Effectively manage and understand PLS requirements for projects, including surveys for design, as-built, monumentation, and layout to ensure compliance with all contractual obligations.
  • Collaboration: Engage in collaborative efforts with various department managers and engineers to guarantee the successful delivery of projects, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared objectives.
  • Quantity Records: Assist in the diligent maintenance of quantity records for work volumes, cooperating with project teams to ensure the progression and accuracy of red line and as-built drawings.
  • Training: Conduct weekly staff training sessions aimed at developing a competent and skilled survey team equipped for success.
  • Travel: Demonstrate flexibility by being willing to travel and potentially relocate according to project requirements and business needs.

Qualifications

  • Software Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and AGTEK software is essential for effective performance in this role.
  • Background: A background in Surveying or Engineering is highly beneficial, providing a solid foundation for understanding project requirements and technical specifications.
  • Experience: Candidates should possess 5-10 years of experience in Construction Surveying, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a closely related field, showcasing a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Mathematical Skills: Strong mathematical skills are required, with the ability to effectively apply concepts of algebra and geometry to perform essential calculations (such as area, volume, circumference, proportion, and percentage).
