Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Civil Construction Estimator to join our team at Kiewit Water Facilities South. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience in civil estimating, with a strong background in water and wastewater projects. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who has worked in the field, built work, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.

District Overview

Kiewit Water Facilities South specializes in constructing water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, and desalination plants across North America. Location

The preferred option would be to work from our office in Westlake, TX; however, we also have an office available in Alpharetta, GA.

Responsibilities

•    Lead constructability reviews, quantity takeoffs, and pricing for multiple disciplines on a pursuit.
•    Perform indirect estimating with oversight.
•    Participate in the management processes and procedures of a pursuit.
•    Manage a team of 5-6 estimators.
•    Take full responsibility for bid closeout.
•    Review specifications, perform takeoffs, and deliver quantities.
•    Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all estimating activities.
•    Work with the team of estimators to develop cost estimates for water/wastewater projects.
•    Coordinate the activities of a team of estimators, review and approve estimates, maintain records, and guide team members.
•    Lead team efforts to provide preconstruction services to clients, including developing bid strategies and leading the bid process for both negotiated and hard bids.
•    Establish and maintain budget control during the estimating/preconstruction phases of the project.
•    Analyze, review, and interpret engineering contracts, plans, and specifications to develop detailed, comprehensive construction estimates for large, complex industrial projects.
•    Manage the estimating function and associated workflow in a project environment, coordinating input from internal and external groups required for estimates and proposals.
•    Ensure estimating and proposal activities are in accordance with Kiewit codes and standards.
•    Prepare and provide value engineering solutions, including cost/schedule implications.
•    Coordinate and maintain relationships with subcontractors and material vendors by managing the estimating process, including soliciting bids and providing constructability input.
•    Assist in the development and training of other estimating staff and work with the Marketing department to prepare responses to RFPs and RFQs.
•    Participate in interview preparations for negotiated bids and assist in prequalification.
•    Manage dealings with subcontracts, subcontractors, and/or self-perform work.
•    Lead successful team ventures, including developing employees and maintaining relationships with external entities and the subcontractor community.
•    Perform detailed specification and drawing reviews.
•    Knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
•    Assist in the presentation of the estimate/proposal.
 

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in Civil, Construction Management, or related fields is preferred.
•    15+ years of experience in the water/wastewater construction industry.
•    Background in CMAR, design-build, and hard bid estimating.
•    Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team of estimators.
•    Strong understanding of constructability, quantity takeoff, and pricing.
•    Experience working in the field and building work.
•    Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
•    Understanding of unit and labor rates.
•    Strong background in MS Office products, Bluebeam, and Construction Estimating Software.
•    Strong work ethic, good interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
•    Experience/exposure to multiple facets of engineering.
•    Results-oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
•    Ability to work as part of a large project team, including in-house inter-discipline engineers and construction superintendents, to provide clients with the industry’s best engineering, procurement, and construction.
