BLMs work directly with Kiewit senior leadership and business development professionals to engage with clients and establish the necessary relationships to achieve the desired capture results.  BLMs evaluate various market opportunities and drive decision making regarding which projects align with our company strengths and align with our corporate growth strategy.  They also have a significant role in ensuring the right resources are in place to fulfill proposal requests, provide estimating and engineering services and prepare winning proposals that support achieving desired financial goals and commercial risk. BLMs establish key market relationships and work directly with third-party engineers, joint venture/consortium partners, OEMs and vendors to build winning teams.

Moreover, the BLM will lead the client engagement and negotiations once shortlisted for an opportunity thru closure and handover to the designated execution team.  Strong business and commercial acumen as well as proven negotiation skills are key to ensuring Kiewit is accepting the right contractual risks in this changing market.  The BLM will communicate with and report regularly to senior management on prospects within the designated market.  The BLM will remain up to date on technology and project execution approaches within their designated market and report to senior management from time to time on those conditions and how they may be changing or anticipated to change to ensure Kiewit remains ahead of our competition.  While business development professionals will not report directly to the BLM, the BLM is responsible for ensuring there is clear direction regarding our client message and close alignment with our business plan goals for this market.
