Position Overview


Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers is currently seeking a Senior Civil Designer. In this role you will perform a variety of design and CADD production tasks related to our civil engineering projects and miscellaneous support for construction activities. The ideal candidate will have at least 15+ years’ experience in engineering plan production, be familiar with current technical tools/programs/software, and CAD production practices.

This position is based out of our Burnaby, BC office. 



  • Manage drafting of roadway, highway, drainage and utilities, and any other civil engineering related design elements.
  • Manage the production civil engineering sketches and drawings.
  • Assist and manage the development of 2D design and 3D modeling such as roadway corridor and earthworks grading.  
  • Manage and mentor Intermediate-Level and Entry-Level Civil Designers.
  • Assist Senior-Level Civil Engineers on day-to-day activities as required. 
  • Manage project team by utilizing the Project Database; report project progression updates and or issues to Lead Designer as required.  
  • Review designs for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking. 
  • Develop guidelines, checklists or other applicable knowledge based documents as assigned.
  • Lead team members in design and drafting techniques to challenge abilities; provide constructive feedback to aid in employee development.
  • Collaborate with various discipline and subsidiary groups to provide expertise and support business needs.
  • Manage completion of as-builts by utilizing RFIs and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
  • Performs calculations and quantities take-off.



  • A graduate of an accredited civil engineering technology or engineering design and drafting diploma program.
  • Fifteen plus years of experience in engineering plan production and civil design.
  • Proficient in utilizing a Computer-Aided Drafting program such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.  Knowledge of MicroStation, GeoPak, InRoads, OpenRoads, Navis Works is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of using Projectwise or any other cloud based file collaboration system is required.
  • Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems, spreadsheets, and databases is required.
  • Attention to details is required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate through emails and utilize electronic meeting requests is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamworks skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment is required.
  • Experience in managing several or a group of Entry-Level and Intermediate-Level Designers is required.
  • Experience in estimating design and drafting efforts and manhours for pursuit and execution phases of project is required.
