Position Overview

The Structures Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil structures projects including bridges, retaining walls, foundations, cast-in-place concrete, precast structures, marine structures, box culverts, pump stations, and related infrastructure. This role supports pursuits from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission by performing detailed quantity takeoffs, analyzing production rates, soliciting subcontractor and supplier pricing, and evaluating construction means and methods.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of structural construction, estimating processes, construction sequencing, and heavy civil operations. This individual works closely with operations, engineering, preconstruction, and business development teams to develop winning project strategies and accurate project pricing.

District Overview

Kiewit's South Central District is one of Kiewit's leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, transportation, and water resource markets. Projects you could be working on could include mass grading, drainage, paving, utility and more.  Although most of our work is regionally based in the south-central region of the United States, we also pursue various projects stretching across the United States. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about infrastructure and committed to the construction industry as opposed to design. 

Location

This position will be based in our office in Westlake, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and detailed cost estimates for heavy civil structures projects including bridges, retaining walls, deep foundations, marine structures, box culverts, and other concrete and steel infrastructure.
  • Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs, pricing, and bid strategies.
  • Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and supplier cost estimates while evaluating production rates, construction methods, and market conditions.
  • Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and vendor quotations, identifying scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Perform constructability reviews, risk assessments, and cost analyses to support competitive and executable project pricing.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and project teams to develop estimate assumptions, project schedules, procurement strategies, and pursuit plans.
  • Support proposal development, estimate reviews, bid presentations, and project turnover activities to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to execution.
  • Maintain historical cost data, estimating databases, and industry relationships to improve estimate accuracy and support future pursuits.
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field.
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered. 2+ years of estimating, project engineering, field engineering, or construction operations experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Experience estimating structural scopes such as bridges, concrete structures, foundations, retaining walls, marine structures, tunnels, transit, or transportation infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficient with estimating software and quantity takeoff platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
