Position Overview

Are you interested in a hands-on real-world learning experience directly related to the skills needed in a full-time construction career? In this internship, you will have the opportunity to develop, participate and learn key roles and functions within construction management.

Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. They serve the construction and mining industries and operates in Eastern Canada.

This opportunity will support projects across the country in large cities and small towns. Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start date.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work in the company’s health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
  • Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed
  • Develop a paperwork management system to track training records to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors
  • Interpret safety regulations for the project.

Qualifications

  • Technical or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety,Health Safety, NCSO, or a related field of study
  • Familiar with construction terminology is an asset
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, fluent in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to work in a variety of locations across Canada, isolated areas requiring travel and camp accommodations
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for safety excellence and taking initiative
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Team player with the ability to work independently
  • Abilities to work under pressure: respect deadlines, high expectations
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel and relocate as business requires.

•    Regular, reliable attendance

•    Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
•    Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
•    May work at various different locations and conditions may vary
