Position Overview
As a Communication Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting Kiewit’s communication strategy. Working closely with partners across the company’s business units, this person will help create, execute and manage messaging and communication strategies while helping leaders and employees identify and address communication gaps.
A successful candidate must be a capable writer and communicator, fast learner, adept at managing multiple responsibilities at once, and able to work collaboratively with business partners at multiple levels. Experience in employee communication and project management will be an important asset to the candidate. This position demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.

District Overview
Kiewit's Southeast District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water resource markets, and has played a significant role in building infrastructure throughout the fast-growing southeastern United States. Since the 1970s, we have built projects from Maryland to Florida and west to Louisiana. Our operations include highways, airports, mass transit, tunnels, water and wastewater facilities, dams and infrastructure work.
Location
This position is based out of St.Croix, Virgin Islands.
Responsibilities
- Assist the public information manager in disseminating project information to local communities and stakeholders through various means such as updating websites, writing and distributing press releases
- Respond to all project inquiries in a timely manner and to a high level of customer service both via email, phone or in person when necessary
- Work with businesses along the project corridor to help minimize the impact of construction on their customers and employees by providing advance notifications in person or via other means
- Effectively create and manage content and design of project collateral and information-sharing vehicles such as fact sheets, monthly newsletters, postcards
- Assist the team with special event planning such as community events
- Maintain the project’s contact database
- Maintain the project’s website
- Provide reports on monthly outreach and project feedback
- Deliver e-mail and text message alerts to service subscribers
- Help manage the project’s social media program
- Create and deliver project update presentations to community groups or for an internal audience
- Create weekly meeting materials including agendas, minutes and PowerPoint presentations.
Qualifications
- One to three year communications experience preferred.
- Exceptional work ethic
- Proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat Professional, and proficient in MS Office Suite; including PowerPoint
- Strong knowledge of Associated Press style of writing
- Strong collaboration and customer relations skills
- Outstanding creativity
- Project management skills; the ability to take a project from concept to conclusion
- Strong passion for learning and adapting to new communication and design principles, tools and technologies
- Previous track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
- Solid skills with peripheral technology such as digital cameras, scanners, printers and A/V equipment
- Ability to work closely on a daily basis with internal and outside professionals on a project team
- Ability to work non-standard office hours as necessary, to travel when required, and to be on-call on some nights and weekends
