Position Overview
The Start Up Superintendent supports the pre-commissioning, commissioning and start up on an assigned project(s). You will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

District Overview
Kiewit’s Southern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil projects that include earth moving, water/wastewater, transportation, roadways, and power projects. Most of our work is concentrated in the Southern California region, with some work in Hawaii.
Location
Kiewit’s Southern California District is based out of the Santa Fe Springs, CA office and supports projects throughout the Southern California region, building out project/construction schedules for all types of infrastructure work across the region.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a schedule of activities related to startup testing and commissioning which meet the requirements of the overall project schedule
• Supervise field crews and mentor Jr. Superintendents
• Hold and/or attend daily safety meetings.
• Insist on strict adherence to Lock-Out / Tag-Out Procedures (LOTO) and policies.
• Review, develop, and implement test procedures for component and system testing.
• Understand and adhere to all contractual requirements, including permitting.
• Review and approve the balance of Foremen, journeymen and laborer’s composite labor rates
• Manage contract administration (subcontractor/field management meeting for communication)
• Develop a program to maintain good client relations involving staff on site
• Provide direct/indirect project technical expertise to facilitate FAT, construction, commissioning and interim operations
• Assist in initial energization, functional testing, and operation of plant systems.
• Track progress of specialized systems and provide management with timely reports on the progress, activities, and provide assessment for improvements (if any).
• Monitor original equipment manufacturers’ work that affects plant operations is being completed as per the regulatory and design standards.
• Initiate and attend supplementary and regular meeting with client for problem resolution and planning
• Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections
• Review, approve and negotiate change orders
• Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover
• Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes
• Ensure that all performance evaluations and completed in a timely fashion for direct reports
• Recommend, where appropriate, organizational, policy and procedural or staff changes
• Review and approve or reject promotions up to General Foremen.
• Ability to analyze and troubleshoot underlying conditions and make recommendations and provide guidance to correct issues in a timely and safe manner.
Qualifications
• Extensive Knowledge of water treatment plant operations, including troubleshooting, and recommendations for process improvements.
• Should possess strong math skills. Should be proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English.
• Extensive knowledge of equipment and operations is required.
• Able to lead, communicate and prioritize effectively during normal, abnormal and emergency situations.
• Able to maintain situational awareness during normal, abnormal and emergency situations.
• More than 6+ years in an Operations role with experience working in electrical, mechanical instrumental, or other professional training preferred.
• More than 5+ years in a Management role, with prior experience in an Engineering office.
• Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of Flow Measurement, Engineering practices, design methods & calculations.
• Knowledge of PC, Windows, Office Software and IT implementation background.
• Able to Read, interpret & prepare applicable technical information. Control systems knowledge and maintenance of PLC and PC based control systems. Must have experience with mechanical equipment like pipelines, Valves, Pumps and other mechanical equipment with moving parts.

Base Compensation: $130,000 - $200,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
