Position Overview

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking an experienced Sponsor to provide executive-level leadership and oversight for large, complex EPC transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects across North America. This position serves as the senior accountable leader for project execution, financial performance, client relationships, risk management, and overall delivery success.

The Sponsor provides strategic guidance and direction to project leadership teams while ensuring alignment between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and client objectives. This role is responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Kiewit's operational excellence standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for major EPC power delivery projects and programs.
  • Establish project execution strategies, goals, staffing plans, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure successful coordination between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and client stakeholders.
  • Lead project reviews and provide guidance to project leadership teams throughout all phases of execution.
  • Support project teams in resolving complex operational, contractual, and client-related challenges.

Financial & Commercial Oversight

  • Maintain accountability for project profitability, forecasting, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
  • Review project budgets, schedules, productivity metrics, and risk assessments.
  • Oversee commercial strategy, contract administration, change management, and claims resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, cost control, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective management of contractual obligations and project risk.

Client Management

  • Develop and maintain strong executive-level relationships with utility clients and key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for major project issues and concerns.
  • Participate in contract negotiations, executive meetings, and strategic client discussions.
  • Support business development efforts and pursuit strategies for future opportunities.
  • Promote long-term client partnerships and repeat business.

Operational Excellence

  • Champion Kiewit's safety culture across all projects and field operations.
  • Drive schedule adherence, quality performance, and execution excellence.
  • Support resource planning and workforce strategies across multiple projects.
  • Ensure projects achieve operational, financial, and client satisfaction objectives.
  • Lead project recovery efforts when required.

Leadership Development

  • Mentor Project Directors, Construction Managers, Project Managers, and senior field leadership personnel.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 20+ years of experience leading utility, energy, industrial, heavy civil, or EPC construction projects.
  • Extensive experience overseeing large transmission, distribution, substation, or power infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record managing projects and programs exceeding $250 million in value.
  • Strong understanding of EPC delivery models, contracting strategies, and commercial management.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, geographically dispersed project teams.

Preferred

  • Experience managing projects exceeding $500 million to $1 billion+.
  • Transmission line construction experience (69kV–765kV).
  • Large-scale greenfield and brownfield substation projects.
  • Renewable energy interconnection and grid modernization projects.
  • Multi-project or portfolio oversight experience.
