Position Overview

The Southeast District is seeking an experienced Structural Inspector for a central everglades construction project with the U.S Army Corp of Engineers (USACE).  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inspection of formwork for concrete erection/stripping, rebar installation, mass concrete thermal controlas, mass concrete placement and other aspects of concrete curing etc. The position will be reporting to our Quality Control Manager. 

District Overview

Kiewit's Southeast District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water resource markets, and has played a significant role in building infrastructure throughout the fast-growing southeastern United States. Since the 1970s, we have built projects from Maryland to Florida and west to Louisiana. Our operations include highways, airports, mass transit, tunnels, water and wastewater facilities, dams and infrastructure work. 

Location

Project is located in Port Saint Lucie, FL, but if you do not live in the area, you must be willing to travel back and forth for weeks at a time. 

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to read plans, understand concrete form work and rebar drawings
  • Inspection of formwork for concrete erection/stripping, rebar installation, mass concrete thermal controls, mass concrete placement, conventional concrete placement, and concrete curing for various footing, walls, and elevated slabs, etc. 
  • Promote and maintain effective communications and relations (verbally and in writing) with district management, project management teams and engineers/clients as required
  • Examine and inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies and cost saving measures that arise or the may be encountered, take corrective action as needed. 
  • Identify potential safety hazards and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize them.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years engineering or science degree or technical college degree plus 2 years of experience in related construction field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in structural inspection
  • Working knowledge of construction practices, construction codes (ASME, AWS, ACI, etc)  and non-destructive examination procedures. 
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Excel and other iOS applications. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform a variety of tasks with deadlines and potentially frequent interruptions.
