Position Overview

Kiewit’s Southeast District is seeking a Civil Quality Inspector to support field quality activities on heavy civil construction projects. This position will work closely with field crews throughout earthwork and embankment operations, performing visual inspections, coordinating required testing, documenting test locations, and communicating with third-party testing agencies and USACE inspectors.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of civil construction means and methods, equipment, materials, earthwork operations, testing requirements, and acceptance criteria. This individual should be comfortable working directly in the field and able to effectively communicate technical construction information with project personnel, testing agencies, and USACE representatives.

District Overview

The Southeast District performs infrastructure and water work throughout the region, with current operations including projects in Florida, the Carolinas, and Virginia.

This position is in Port St. Lucie, FL. 

Responsibilities

  • Follow civil crews during placement and construction of embankment and earthwork materials to monitor work for compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform ongoing visual inspections of civil construction activities and identify items requiring additional review or testing.
  • Coordinate required field testing with third-party testing agencies and USACE inspectors.
  • Work closely with field supervision and quality personnel to ensure testing occurs at the appropriate stage of construction.
  • Record and document the GPS location of testing activities using rover equipment.
  • Maintain accurate field inspection and quality documentation.
  • Understand applicable specifications, plans, testing requirements, and acceptance criteria associated with civil construction.
  • Communicate effectively with USACE inspectors regarding construction activities, materials, testing, and field conditions.
  • Provide knowledgeable responses to questions related to civil work and coordinate with project leadership when additional technical clarification is required.
  • Support the project team's commitment to quality throughout construction operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with at least 2 years of related construction experience; OR
  • At least 5 years of relevant civil construction, field engineering, quality, or inspection experience.
  • Current CQM-C certification, or ability to successfully complete and pass CQM-C training within 6 months of appointment.
  • Working knowledge of heavy civil construction, including:
    • Earthwork and embankment operations
    • Civil construction equipment and materials
    • Field inspection practices
    • Testing procedures and coordination
    • Construction specifications and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, third-party testing personnel, and USACE inspectors.
  • Ability to use or learn GPS rover equipment for recording field testing locations.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and field coordination skills.
  • Must be comfortable spending the majority of the workday in an active construction environment.
