Position Overview

The Quality Specialist supports the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of project quality programs across construction projects. This role works closely with project management, field supervision, engineering, subcontractors, and clients to ensure construction activities comply with contract requirements, company standards, applicable codes, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience in transportation, bridge, highway, rail, marine, tunnel, earthwork, or water/wastewater infrastructure projects and possess a strong understanding of construction inspection processes, quality documentation, testing requirements, and corrective action management.

Kiewit’s Eastern District specializes in challenging heavy civil construction projects throughout the Northeast.  We are leaders in bridge, transit, foundation, tunnel, and water/wastewater construction while specializing in cast-in-place concrete, structural steel erection, earthwork, pile driving, and caissons. Kiewit’s Eastern District also has a large amount of work in the energy/power sector in various northeast locations. Kiewit Eastern District is currently seeking Engineer Interns for their Summer 2027 Intern Program!  Kiewit’s Eastern District primarily performs heavy civil projects in infrastructure & energy, specializing in transportation, roadways, rail, power and water/wastewater while developing builders to lead the future of our company.

Job assignment location will be determined closer to your start date. Must be able to travel and relocate as frequently as business needs require. These projects are happening in large cities and small towns, so you have a chance to experience it all!

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and administration of project-specific Quality Management Plans (QMPs).
  • Verify construction activities comply with contract documents, specifications, approved submittals, and inspection requirements.
  • Coordinate and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality checklists, testing records, and turnover documentation.
  • Perform field audits and inspections to verify workmanship, material compliance, and adherence to quality procedures.
  • Monitor testing activities performed by third-party laboratories and specialty inspectors.Review quality records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to submission to clients.
  • Assist with identification, tracking, and resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs), deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Support root-cause investigations and implementation of preventive measures to minimize rework.Partner with field engineers, superintendents, and subcontractors to proactively address quality concerns.
  • Participate in pre-activity meetings, quality planning sessions, and project kickoff meetings.
  • Maintain project quality databases, logs, testing reports, and documentation systems.
  • Track quality metrics and prepare reports detailing inspection results, non-conformance trends, and corrective action status.
  • Support owner representatives, regulatory agencies, and client audits during project execution.
  • Evaluate subcontractor quality performance and assist with compliance reviews.
  • Ensure proper turnover and closeout documentation is completed and submitted in accordance with project requirements.
  • Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and "build it right the first time" execution.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in construction quality, field engineering, inspection, or related heavy civil construction roles.
  • Experience on infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, transit, marine, tunnels, dams, water/wastewater facilities, utilities, or large earthwork projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, standards, and construction procedures.Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles within construction environments.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.
