Position Overview
The Vice President of Markets & Strategy – Data Centers is responsible for leading the strategic growth, market positioning, and capture of work within the Data Center sector across North America. This executive role drives market strategy, client engagement, competitive positioning, and pursuit execution across all contractual delivery models.
The role serves as the senior market leader for Data Centers, with deep knowledge of hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and emerging digital infrastructure clients, including their procurement strategies, capital drivers, technology trends, and competitive landscape. The role ensures alignment of engineering, procurement, construction, and operational capabilities to secure profitable, strategically aligned projects and expand long-term client relationships.
District Overview
The Kiewit Energy marketing, creative, and proposal team provides get-work services to multiple markets including power generation, transmission and distribution, renewables, industrial, oil and gas, and water/wastewater. We focus on winning work with high-quality, client-focused sales strategies through creative communication techniques. Our team brings vast experience and expertise to all projects we support across the company.
Location
The preference would be for this individual to be near a core Kiewit office.
This role entails approximately 30% or more travel required to support client engagement, market development, and pursuit activities. Travel is often on short notice, driven by client needs and pursuit schedules.
Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Growth Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive Data Center market strategy aligned with corporate growth objectives.
- Maintain expert-level understanding of clients, competitors, supply chain partners, OEMs, and emerging technologies within the Data Center ecosystem.
- Identify and prioritize target clients, geographies, and delivery models to maximize market share and profitability.
- Lead go/no-go decisions and establish capture strategies for major pursuits.
Client Development & Capture
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with hyperscale and enterprise clients.
- Lead client engagement from early positioning through contract execution and handover to operations.
- Direct pursuit strategy, value proposition development, and contract negotiation approach for major opportunities.
- Oversee proposal strategy, messaging, financial positioning, and risk management to ensure competitive, profitable outcomes.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Engineering, Construction, Estimating, Legal, and Business Development teams to align resources and ensure seamless pursuit execution.
- Coordinate internal and external partners, including third-party engineers, joint venture partners, OEMs, and strategic vendors to build high-performing pursuit teams.
- Ensure disciplined review of schedules, budgets, cost structures, staffing plans, procurement strategies, and execution approaches prior to submission.
Financial & Operational Accountability
- Drive profitable growth within the Data Center sector.
- Oversee pursuit budgets and ensure efficient use of resources to achieve capture objectives.
- Monitor market conditions, emerging technologies, and execution trends to ensure the organization remains competitively positioned.
Executive Communication
- Provide regular market intelligence, opportunity pipeline updates, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Represent the organization at industry events, executive forums, and strategic client engagements.
Leadership Expectations

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in engineering, construction, or integrated project delivery, with significant experience in mission-critical/Data Center markets.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale pursuits and negotiating complex contracts.
- Deep understanding of Data Center infrastructure systems, delivery models, and procurement strategies.
