Survey CAD Technician - Heavy Civil Projects - Southwest District

Position Overview

If your have a strong background in Civil projects with 3D design tools, this is a great opportunity to support our Southwest District on major transportation and water projects in the Phoenix area.  As a Survey CAD Technician, you will be working under the direction of the Survey Manager, working closely with field operations and engineering to ensure as-built drawings are accurate in Trimble Business Center software.   Please see below for additional responsibilities. 

District Overview

Kiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects, we typically self-perform a large portion of the work. We self-perform work such as mass grading, drainage, PCCP paving, utilities and more. We are looking for people committed to the construction industry with safety, quality, costs and schedule in mind.   We are currently staffing up for several projects in the region.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will assist our professional surveyors with CAD production, boundary analysis, easement preparations and computing survey points.  Expect to work with Survey Managers and Field crew to develop grading, curb, drainage, paving and utility designs for roads & bridges construction projects, processing raw field data through Trimble Business Center software.  You will be expected to extract/gather data through GPS and other survey tools and QA/QC check your own work.  You will work in both the field and in the office with field crews, project engineers and other staff, and will be expected to continuously review and modify submitted drawings for the project.  

Qualifications

•   Ability to travel and relocate as needed to other project sites in the region.  
•   Prefer 2 years or more work experience in Survey CAD technician/design role on Heavy Civil construction projects.  
•   Associate’s degree in drafting technology, engineering technology or related discipline strongly preferred
•   Must have Trimble Business Center experience or similar package (Civil 3D, Geopak, or Inroads).   
•   Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems, spreadsheets, and databases
•   Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
•   Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
•   Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
•   Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
•   Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
•   Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
•   Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
•   Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
